Well I don't know too much (younger than you) but my Dad is 3D Multimedia Designer / Programmer...
A Programmer sit there most the day behind a desk coding, you need good logic and design and work well in teams. What type of programmer, web development, games, or applications? Most can be really hard to get into. They work hard but also play hard! Play table tennis, dart, Wii, etc, at work and drink beer near the end of the week. Not really referred as geeky as they once where. Most also have a taste for music and doesn't really matter what you wear. Sometimes can work at home, sometime work overtime to get deadlines finished on time. Music is purely a make or break. Spend your life at it and have to work with a great band. All members must rule or you suck! However, it's not just the music but also stage present. You could do music on the side and if it's a hit, stop programming? -------------------- Play Games Arcade Take a break, Play Games! Whichever way you decide, try not to give up entirely on the other choice. Also: sorry I just missed you in chat a few minutes ago, I didn't have my headphones on.

I feel you man, I was actually on a very similar path some time ago. I started studying programming and in the middle of studies discovered it is just not for me. Feel free to go on programming studies, but you won't actually know if you like it or don't like it until you start coding professionally and hang out with the people who are actually doing those jobs. If you feel like programming then, then you can say it's a safe bet for you.
Regarding music, I feel that you should never give up your music no matter what. Just be persistent and music itself can find it's way into your life if you are good. Don't worry too much about being on the crossroad, just try to do whatever you feel you want to do. You are just starting to be a musician it's a long and hard path to there, just as it is for being a coder. If you really like music more than coding, then I really recommend you go into music school cause doing something you don't like can only feel you bad. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
