Hey guys, i'm working very close to the team making my signature guitar, going thru every single detail on the construction, and yesterday we got to the frets, my two guitars have jumbo frets and i feel them normal, that's the normal fret for my, but this very experienced luthier is telling me to go with medium frets for my les paul, that he knows that they transmit the vibrations much better into the body.

What's your experience with that? what do you like?

No idea.
Probably there are theories and laws of physics on the matter but I wouldn't spend too much thought on how it vibrates into the wood.
If it feels good that's more important.
And frankly, I don't really feel any difference.

Good luck with the guitar! smile.gif

I have two guitars, one with jumbo, and the other with extra jumbo frets. I personally don't like anything less then jumbo, because theres more contact between my fingers and the fretboard.

I have medium frets on my Minarik Lotus (Les Paul Shape) and it does feel a bit different. It sort of encourages your fingers to dig in deeper which works well for blue/rock, etc. The heavy bod does have a lot resonance as well. I"d say try a side by side comparison. It would be a shame to have it done one way, then compare later and find out you might have liked something else. But either way I'm sure it will be a really good guitar to play.

Hmm not sure man, I will change frets on my Strat soon, and I'll go for jumbo. The truth is - any fret size will take some time adjusting, and once that's done - it's all the same.

I've tried couple of strats with jumbo frets before and I liked the bulkiness. I hope it will turn out OK.

I also enjoy jumbo frets because of the way they feel, i have no idea about medium ones, though when I play on a friend's les paul, I always remark that the frets are medium tongue.gif
