I think I've got a slight RSI going on at the moment in my right wrist. I'm pretty sure this isn't because of guitar but I think it's more a mixture of things. Mostly I'm pretty sure it's from using a computer so much and in particular the mouse. It's not so much a pain it's more of an ache when I use the mouse and it feels really uncomfortable. And obviously the same is for guitar at the moment.

I'm seeing a doctor on monday but to be honest I don't know if anything can actually be done about it. I've had something like it before but it wasn't as bad as this. This is obviously bad news because it means I can't really play guitar right now and It's a bit uncomfortable when I'm using my PC. Anyone had anything like it before?

Look here if you want to know:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repetitive_strain_injury

I know it isn't JUST guitar that has caused this as I said due to the fact I'm and IT student and use the computer a lot there's a lot of wrist movement so I'm pretty sure it has mainly come from that. Also like I said I had something like it before but not as bad and that was back when I was playing a lot of computer games.

I was just checking out one in a local store. So it helps? I think I'll get one too.

I've been in this exact situation before. I work at a computer a lot as well, and over time my forearm/wrist/hand was getting really sore. This is RSI and you can do something about it. It sees obvious, but the only way to solve it is to reduce or eliminate the repetitive motion. In my case I was using a computer for work and gaming so I switched to an ergonomic keyboard and I got a symmetric trackball which I learned to use left handed. I also stopped gaming on the computer and got an Xbox which used different muscles/tendons than the mouse did. I was slow at first with the keyboard and mouse but now it isn't a problem and I haven't had pain since. I still use a mouse sometimes but now since the frequency is so greatly reduced it isn't a problem. Adjust your habits and you will get better.

The mouse pad with the foam is one of the best investments I made when working. I type everyday big amounts of stuff on keyboard and had to get it. It saved my right hand's wrist so to speak.

I also noticed that it is MUCH better to warm up the wrists with some workouts before typing anything on PC. I get some pain if I don't do that, and the pain is increasing over the years sad.gif

I also use Logitech Wave Keyboard, which is good as if has wavy ergonomic surface, but I think those ergonomic keyboards are even better (the ones with split keyboards for left and right hand). Take some time adapting, but it's WORTH IT.
