Hi Folks,

I'm preparing for the REC program, doing Marcus Siepen's Metal Rhythm lesson.

I was wondering if I could get opinions on which of these two amp models with GR3 sounds, "better." Please forgive the playing. They are the same take with different amp modeling applied.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Good upload examples with the 2 models. I like the Marshal sound more but I don't think you are using enough midrange to cut and get the crunch you need.

I like some things about both to be honest with you.
If I where going to work on a Model for this tone I would pick a Soldano 100 head and a 4 x 12 Treadplate cabinet (Mesa Bogie). A sure 57 mic off Axis (play with the distance of the mic %), and then add EQ and effects to your likening.

Marshal and a Gibson are a classic sound for metal, so if your going to stick with the Marshal model don’t be afraid to use a Tube Screamer or something mello as a stomp box and add more mid’s.

"Think of a guitar solo as a paragraph. You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

I loved Marshal amp sample but imo it was lacking of highs, not mids. smile.gif
Tom, what kind of guitar you were using, which pickup, bridge?
If bridge then try to boost presence a little and eventually mids,
you're missing only bit of attack and there was plenty of low end.

I really didn't like the marshal sound at all, the first one was better in my opinion but still not quite there but that could just be my fussyness on guitar tone smile.gif

I found out that Guitar Rig sounds much better when you turn of(bypass) the cabinet in Guitar Rig and add another speaker plugin in the FX CHain of your DAW.

Last time Muris told me to do something, it was to jump off a bridge....

Lucky it was not very tall.

I do not see what you are using to model this anywhere, I am assuming it is some sort of POD?

Thanks for the replies. This take is with a Jackson using a bridge humbucker. I've found this pickup anemic. I'm going to try with a Fat Strat with a Seymour Duncan Humbucker that seems to give a fuller sound. I'll take a look at those links and try the suggestions above as well.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to listen. I'm not very familiar with all of this modeling stuff so any suggestions are helping me learn.

Cheers!

Tom

I kind of have a preference for the Ubersonic.
Both sound good to me though, but that would be my pick. :-)

I also prefer the Ubersonic, though I have to see your playing with the marshall sounds a bit tighter, I am not sure though if it is the sound or just the take smile.gif

Marshall sounds tighter but lighter smile.gif

Try to EQ the Marshall a bit, put EQ after amp and add some top end, lower down hi mids just a bit, and increase low end juuuuust a bit. Also experiment with other cabs before EQing, you might find a better match.
