Hello folks,

I won't be around much for a while, at least that's how I'm thinking at the moment. I feel like my interest in guitar has gone but paradoxically, I want it back, or at least I think I do.

I've decided to take a break until the new year and see what happens. Maybe something will happen before then, we'll see. I'll still pop into the forum from time to time if I find any new gear interesting or a new band or if inspiration comes and I want to record something for my mentoring with Kris.

I feel bad as my journey with Kris has only just begun but losing Gab hit me big time, same when Cosmin left me, I was down for quite some time. This time, Gab leaving has come at a time when life is also throwing plenty of curve balls, so unlike when Cosmin left and Gab pulled me out of the doldrums, it's harder this time around.

Have fun folks.

See you around.

Phil

Sorry to hear it Phil.
I have followed your mentoring for a long time and found it inspiring to read.

Ok, thanks for the heads- up Phil,

I have gone through similar phases myself - and I have a strong feeling you will find your way back to the guitar! But taking a break is sometimes needed and can even be a very good thing for progress.

Stay safe mate 👊

Folks get way too hung up on "improvement" or advancement or whatever you wanna call it.
You don't have to study or take lessons all the time or even consistently.
I haven't taken a legit 'lesson' since November 2004.

Just play whatever the fuck you want.
I have no idea if your post is asking for an opinion or a suggestion but I'm gonna give a couple ...
1) Find some guys to jam with. Playing music with actual people is really fun and you get better a lot faster.
2) Forget about the Vai or Satch licks. Play simple stuff that sounds good and feels good. The exhilaration and satisfaction you'll feel when you can kick ass on a 4-on-the-floor rockin' blues tune is unmatched by damn near anything else in life.

Cheers Ken,

I wasn't asking for anything buddy, it was just to let folks know rather than just disappear which I think is wrong after being around as much as I normally am, it's not like a Facebook group where people say "I'm leaving" and others say, "You don't need to announce it just go" we're a tightly knit community here. Having said that, any input is taken on board and what you say is correct. I think sometimes we spend so much time trying to improve, and it can be very demoralising when improvements are slow, that we forget the stuff we can play and enjoy playing like a simple chug along 12 bar which always puts a smile on my face when the turnaround lands spot on with the drums cool.gif

For me, finding people to play with is tricky, there isn't much of a music scene nearby, not for jamming anyway, I get up at 5:45am and get home at around 5pm, if I'm lucky, have a shower and dinner by which time it's around 6:30-7pm and I'm knackered from being on my feet doing manual and mentally taxing work for 9 hours and looking after the problems of 15 blokes which doesn't give me much time as I'm back in bed by 10pm for the restless night where I usually get around 3-4 hours sleep.

That isn't a moan, it's just how it is, I'm just taking a reset, I'm burnt out with everything at the moment, sometimes there is just too much shit hitting the fan and something has to give somewhere, I just gotta make sure it's not me wink.gif Back in the day, I had friends who played guitar, drums etc, but they've all moved away, I don't get much time for socialising around music bars which are mostly in Birmingham 20 miles away, and weekends March to November I'm at my holiday home.

That's where I'm at currently, I need to retire laugh.gif Thanks for the suggestions though buddy, it's all good, just need to get back to the roots.

Cheers

Sometimes a break can be a good idea. If you try to force yourself to play, things will not go in a good direction.
In order to regain your energy and interest for guitar, I think it's good to feel first that you miss the guitar. The absence of the guitar in your daily schedule, can clear things up for you. You know how it says: "Sometimes you don’t know what you've got till it's gone." wink.gif

Playing the guitar should be a joy and that's why we always need to keep a balance between dedication (when we learn new things) and fun. The more fun you have while playing, the easier it will be to stay motivated. That's why, sometimes, when life gives us hard moments, guitar playing is what gives us that peace of soul and that kind of escape into a happy world.

Stop thinking about what you can't do on the guitar and try to look back at how many awesome things you achieved until now. Listen to your old tracks and be proud of yourself. Also, always remember why you started to play guitar.

If you need to talk with someone, I will always be here for you. smile.gif

I hope you find your way to guitar bud smile.gif Looks like you just bought a new one so it would be a shame to stop playing now. Hopefully you can find your way back in the new year smile.gif
