I had a really good idea about a guitar design. I did a lot of drawings. Does anyone know how I could foresee-ably transfer my drawings into the real deal? Would be awesome to have a one of a kind self designed guitar.

I'd advise you either have your own project to make it or get somebody else in local area to make it. It would cost a lot for big company to make your design a reality sad.gif

I remember reading that James Hetfield said ESP makes any guitar you want according to your own design. And that includes not only the looking but also the selection of the parts tongue.gif
Of course you could try also any custom shop and see what they say about it.

Well find a local guitar crafts man to do it..But watch out that may be very expensive and not work how you imagined it smile.gif
Post a design if you have it on your computer wink.gif

Well in theory I would like to have my own line of guitars in this style. I would call this one the Axe. Literally, I want it looking like an axe. Maybe with painted blood dripping around the edges. Can you guess that I like heavy metal??

Another good and gruesome one would look like a head on a sword or pike and the strings go up to the teeth and into the mouth.

I will make a master drawing and scan it next week during reading break.

That sort of thing has already been done by Gwar and Lordi.

yea Gwar takes the cake for having rediculous guitar designs smile.gif.. i also drew up some custom drawings like this.. my idea was to build it myself but i have very little time. Find a bandsaw and a chunk of wood.. figure out how to calculate scale.. draw the new scale drawing on the wood.. then.. cut.. then youve gotta punch and drills holes for hardware.. buy the hardware.. sand it and shape the body. either try and build a neck(AHHHH) or try and find a neck to buy.. add it.. and congrats u have a custom.. i recommend reading MickeM's guitar building blog.

i recommend reading MickeM's guitar building blog.

Thanks laugh.gif

I gave up the idea on a design that's far out there. The risk is that a too "creative" design will look completely ridiciolus.

I believe Warmoth guitars can offer this service ......(design your own body shape).
They make top quality parts.
At least you can buy a body blank from them and cut your own. They will route for your pickup combo, neck pocket and bridge selection.

I know a couple of good Custom guitar shops, that make the instrument you want for you. One is RAN and one is Amfisound here in Finland. I bet there's dozens of custom shops, but these are what I know that are good and fairly priced. (comparing to something like ESP custom shop)

Yeah, www.warmoth.com sells really quality stuff there, and they'll work with you to make a custom design if you want. They have loads of bodies and necks there in all styles, and I'm currently working on making a VIP with some of their parts biggrin.gif . It might seem kind of expensive at first, but when you think about what you're getting (quality woods, unique features) it's totally worth it, and way cheaper than trying to buy a top of the line guitar, plus you get EXACTLY what you want.

Warmoth also sells guitar body blanks if you're feeling skilled at the moment. I think that you could do the body at least yourself, if you laid out detailed diagrams and had the tools, but I would definitely buy a neck or get one made.
