Soldering Pots/wires

Jul 10 2008, 02:18 PM	GMC:er Posts: 664 Joined: 15-October 07 From: Minnesota, USA. Earth	Receintly a friend of mine was trying to replace a scratchy pot in his guitar. After he was done he had reliability problems with his solder joints. So I figured id share with you guy what I shared with him. 1. Use rosin core solder. 2. Make sure all points to be connected are clean and pretinned. Tinning a wire or connection is accomplished by applying a thin coating of solder to the wire or connection terminal BEFORE the connection is made. This process prepairs the terminal and, or wires to be joined. I try to leave enough solder on the wire or terminal so that I dont need to add anymore to complete the connection. 2. Touch the two surfaces together and apply heat from soldering iron. (do not overheat thet joint). It will go liquid in a few seconds and bond together perfectly and there will not be an ugly blob of solder hanging off. You will be amazed at how the soldering process is simplified by tinning the wires first. I hope this helps someone. Patrick. You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick.
