Takamine or Ovation are good acoustic guitars. Gibson has few models that are good, but mainly older ones. If you wanna buy new one, go for takamine, they're among the best.

The top Acoustic brands are Martin, Taylor, Guild, and a few others which are not distributed nearly as widely as those three.
Low end acoustics are Yamaha, Ovation, Ibanez, and several others. YES, Taylor and the other good brands make crappy models and YES ovation and Ibanez make some nice models but all in all I think the above statements hold true for the majority of the brands offerings. An off-beat brand I have always been fond of is Seagull. They are hand crafted in Canada using select limited cut woods and cost about $400 US and up. The price to quality ratio is insane.
