Hmmmm. I'd definitely check out a....
FENDER AMERICAN STRAT----just a classic and pretty versatile
Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Deluxe----It's got fender style and playabilty but humbuckers TRY IT PLEASE!!!
Gibson Les Paul Studio----I've played one and it screams rock beautifully but can also punch out amazing blues PRETTY
If you don't like those just check out some random stuff.
good luck smile.gif

It's only 11:40am here and i'm absolutely dying to get out of work haha.

The store i go to is relatively big and i think i'm gonna go down armede with a notepad and a camera so that i can really go over the selection. They have a good selection of LP's/Fenders/PRS's so i'l at least get the chance to get hands on with some of the things i'm interested if nothing else.

It's all well and good having these ideas in my head but i could go there and be completely taken aback by a guitar that i hadn't given much thought to - that '72 Telecaster Deluxe sounds mighty interesting even though i'd not even considered a Tele up until now.

Whatever happens i'll be sure to keep you guys updated, your experience and opinions have been invaluable.

*UPDATE*

The search is over! The money has been spent! Ah yes, i spent many many hours trawling the few music stores available to me (including the big one with all the PRS's). I kept all your advice in mind and made sure that i trusted the "feel" of the instruments. In the end it boiled down between the goold old Fender Stratocaster (think it was a '57 but i can't remember), a LP 1960 Classic and a PRS Custom 24 which cost almost as much as the LP and the Strat combined lol.

First the Fender, now this was a comfortable guitar! It's hard to describe but it seemed to just fit my body perfectly and seemed like the kinda guitar i could just play and play.

The Les Paul sorta disappointed me actually, it looked great but i just wasn't as impressed with it as i was with the Strat.

Then came the tough one, the PRS Custom 24 Ten-Top. Now this guitar looked fantastic to me. I was surprised by just how thin and light it was, almost felt like i was holding a balloon rather than an actual guitar. I played a few licks on it and it didn't sound so hot (out of tune! grrr), so anyhoo i tuned it up. Plugged it into a nice little Fender Blues amp and my head almost exploded with the awesomeness of the sound! I thought the Strat sounded good (and it did) but really, this guitar spoke to me. I tried a variety of licks in different styles and it just covered them all really well.

So then i had the decision to make, the PRS was almost as much as the Strat and the LP combined *gulp* so the logical man in me was actually thinking "why don't you buy the LP and the Strat! It makes more sense" buuuuut i really really fell in love with the PRS.

I tried a lot of guitars today but really the PRS was the only one that hit me like this and i just thought to hell with it, this is a guitar i wanna own. So i bought it! I even bought the Fender Blues Jr i tested it on lol.

If i get the chance i'll attach some pics. In the meantime, thanks to all for the advice and help. Without you i doubt i'd own such a great guitar!

Yeah unfortunately i hardly had any chance to play it yet! I got back pretty late last night and was far too tired to play - especially considering that i actually had to carry the guitar (in hardcase), the amp and a few other accessories home by myself, which was a good couple of kilometres + a train ride blink.gif

The guitar itself is a real beauty though, i got it in Matteo blue and once i get home i'll get some pics up. I'll perhaps do a review at some point but i really want to spend a good time playing it first!

I bought a gripmaster whilst i was out too but that's just for when i'm bored at work, my fingers are getting trained the good ol' fashioned way - by lots of playing!

Well unfortunately i've been absolutely swamped this week so the pictures have been on hold. I'll be able to get some tonight guaranteed! I'll keep it in this thread though, don't wanna clog things up (I almost feel bad to keep flogging this topic though laugh.gif ).

The good news is that i have had a decent amount of time to put it through its paces now (or at least the paces that i can achieve at my level mellow.gif ) and this is exactly what i wanted from a guitar. Plugged into my Blues.Jr it sings to me and finally the sounds i have in my head are finding a way out.

Can't wait to show you guys!

Well here are some of those pics i promised. I'm not much of a photographer but i hope they do the job!

It's a beauty ain't it hehe. I really dig the bird designs and probably the one thing that struck me most (and i hope the picture conveys) is just how THIN this guitar is, it's also really light. When i first tried it out at the store i thought "oh i would never get used to this" - about 5 minutes of playing around on it and i didn't give it a second thought haha.
