To be completely sure you must ask the instructor who composed the song.
I can't possibly think anyone should have anything against it, though! (As long as you give them credit) |

I think every musician is inspired by all kinds of things, the trick is to take our inspiration and turn them into something new, something unique, be inspired, but try to avoid pure copying.

Try to work on playing stuff in style of what you learned , to change it to be similar but not exactly same..It can be a good practice..But best way is to just forget what you learned and try to come up with something new

Its a matter of degree really -
If you played Muris' Neoclassical (you know the really insane one!) note for note, then yes, that would require permission from Muris and shouldn't be passed off as your own work. But, if you took your favourite run from the middle, added it to a couple of Marcus' licks from Winding roads, then tied them together with a cool sweep you taught yourself from a tab on UG then bingo, its your own piece (influenced by Marcus & Muris to be sure) but its something new and it belongs to you -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

It is normal to have influence from GMC if you learn here. So do whatever it feels and sounds good to you. It is not of course good to copy everything, not mainly because of legal issues, but you will get nowhere. It's the creativity that counts in music.
