My request would be " How You Compose". I think Matt may have mentioned earlier. Not how you improvise but how you actually start writing your own music. Do you start with the drum's and then write over the beat ( what I do by the way) or do you start with a melody that you have in your head and add the part's with your feelings, that sort of thing.

I'm into anything musical (except for hip hop/rap) and would love to see how you guys start with your own music. It would be great IMO, if an instructor would actually document how an original song came together. May take some time, but I think it would help others tremendously to see how a song came together from thought to recording. Maybe video the progress along the way as some sort of "Song Diary Lesson" so to speak.

I think all you guys are great and by the way Col, nice topic! smile.gif

Yes this is what I was trying to say with the songwriting lessons. This is probably the only important thing that GMC is missing right now.

But more metal is always cool too cool.gif

It seems there is a big demand for death metal yet I only see Toni doing them. I'd really like to see some stuff in the style of Chuck Schuldiner or just death metal solos in general. ALso I think some stuff in DGCFAD tuning would be great.

I've added an example for each of the styles in the main post. Hope this helps those unfamiliar with some of them. Check them out.

i would really appreciate an eric clapton lesson in the cream era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI8SUc2SV4k but the recorded version has a bit better solo in my opinion.
i cant believe we don't have a jimmy page (led zeppelin) style lesson which could possibly be series like acoustic, blues/jazz and of course rock. And an explanation would be great as well.
i would really love a sublime lesson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrLJ6Saq7u4
a coheed and cambria lesson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnSR1bKeosM

Come on GMC'ers I need suggestions. I read in another thread that a member would like to know how to create their own recordings ... well perhaps we could ask for a lesson on making recordings. Don't forget to visit the first post in this thread.

QUOTE ("Steve Vai")
Start by playing something - a bend, a riff, a scale, a song - very slowly; if you make a mistake, start over; do this over and over, until you can play it flawlessly - and I do mean flawlessly - many times in a row. Next, gradually increase the tempo. Eventually you'll be flailing like a madman.

Ooh! I have a few "In the Style of" suggestions. I really want a Racer X style lesson that focuses on Rhythm and lead techniques Paul would use ! Muris came out with two Paul Gilbert style lessons (and I looove them). But, my Paul Gilbert craving is not fulfilled sad.gif . A Jason Becker style lesson is a MUST (I know I'm not the only one who wants it) wink.gif ! I don't really play acoustic... But, A Paco De Lucia lesson would be enjoyable for a few people.

I also would like a keyboard/piano lesson. I got a free keyboard that's just collecting dust in the corner of my room (poor thing). Maybe someone should construct a three level keyboard lesson (similar to how Marcus has done it). So, we can all learn and grow from each of the lessons. Or, something that will give us a good kick in the right direction wink.gif !

I would also appreciate more "campfire-country" (don't know if this is the right translation), maybe even on acoustic guitar, so on if you're on a camping tour you can impress the others. wink.gif
