Using Pinky To Much

Sometimes i use it on longer notes and the i cant make vibrato with it and enev whenplaying higher up on the guitar i sue my pinky even thoght i dont have to.... Anyone else do this? I don't think this is a bad thing. Alot of upcoming players have the opposite problem actually. Emir has given great advice for switching fingers. If you still want to use your pinky for bends and vibrato, it will need extra strength and help from the other fingers in most cases. To get extra strength place the other 3 fingers on the fretboard as well (in front of pinky or on lower frets, same string!) Use all/one or 2 fingers to bend or vibrato then. I guess it's not really a bad habit, as it's good technic to involve all 4 fingers and you can apply vibrato with the help of the other fingers as Ian said. But i know what you mean .. my vibrato is anyway not what it supposed to be, but when i use the pinky it's even worst. I think it's something you can easily adjust or optimize in your technic. It's good to have pinky working as much as other fingers. I think you don't need to worry for your vibrato. Use other fingers for that as Emir suggested. Also if you need to work on your bending and vibrato with pinky, just practice it. You can achieve a huge level of vibrato control on the pinky through practice as well as on the other fingers. The more fingers you are using the more options you have, so this is definitely a good thing, and if vibratos on lone notes feel uncomfortable with your pinky, well, as Emir suggested, you can use a different finger for such things then or just practice this with your pinky (it would give you even more options then) You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. As already said, i think if anything this is good because after a while you will be able to do vibrato and stuff with it and then you'll have 4 fingers that are relatively equal. I've seen many guitar players use only the tree, especially on pentatonic runs, but I generally use index-ring and index-pinky. When it comes to vibrato I restrict myself not to do it with pinky! Also I do know people who are great players and use pinky for both bends and vibrato , even bending + vibrato ! (Iain Scott for example) If you are having doubts technique/speed wise then its very easy to test where you are at - play the same passage using 3rd finger and then using pinky. Use metronome and determine the fastest tempo for pinky and 3rd finger , and after that it becomes obvious which one you should use more frequently You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick.
