So, most of you know I got a gig on Monday, and now yesterday I wanted to play my whole setlist, and what happens, my D string breaks ..... And now I'm scared, that the others will break too, today, tomorrow, "toyota" Monday. So, what could I do best? Only replace the D, or just put a whole new set on? And what would be the best way too get them from de-tuning as fast as possible?

I would suggest to replace them all. Try to do lots of bends on all strings and your de-tuning problem is gone today smile.gif

Where did your string break? If it broke at the bridge where the string meets the saddle, you might have a saddle that has some sharp edge, causing wear and eventually the string will break. This is bad, cause it will eventually wear out the next string too... If it broke somewhere in the middle, you might have the same thing on one of the frets, but that's very unlikely... Otherwise it's just a bad string or coincidence that it happened.
Put on a new set, tune it up, and bend all the strings in different positions for 5 minutes or so. Tune again, bend some more, and play for a while... You should be ok.
Try to bring a backup guitar for the gig. You never know, many things can happen, and it's a pain to have to interrupt a gig cause your guitar fails you?

If they are fairly new I'd settle with chaning the broken string. If they are old I'd exchange all of them.
Then play a lot before yout gig so they get stretched.
I can recommend Elexir strings, after I put my first set on I was surprised these strings have a lot of "chime" and they didn't stretch as much as my old brand, almost nothing at all.

Keep a set of strings handy also when you play live, and one of these quick machine head spinners is a must so you quickly change a string on stage incase one break. That and a spare guitar if you want to be real safe.

I'd replace the whole set, if you broke your D-string, you're prolly not far away from killing your high E or B as well.

One of the golden rules about playing live is to ALWAYS put on new strings before a gig!!! Of course you can try to play a show with old strings and it might work, like this you saved some cash, but chances are rather high that you break a string and this really doesn't have to happen. When I play live, each guitar that I play tonight gets new strings for tomorrows show, always! Like this I didn't break a single string during an 18 months tour.

Great man! Be sure to bend them properly a bit so they don't go out of tune. Bend them a lot, and stretch them and it will be OK! smile.gif

Dude change all your strings, put graphite from a No2 pencil on the saddles and in the nut. Also bring another guitar...

I used to snap strings constantly - the graphite lubricates those tension spots on the guitar and string breakage is a lot less frequent I find.

Always change strings before show...You have plenty of time to bend them and play in order to avoid detuning afterward..

Yes, this is also important, change strings early enough, not 10 minutes before the show, otherwise you will have tuning problems. My strings usually get changed after our soundcheck, which normally ends between 17:00 or 18:00, so if we go on stage around 21:30 there is still enough time.

I agree, new set of strings is always good before a show.
I recommend not changing then right before though, but maybe the day before.
Also keep in mind that often the temperature changes in the venue, especially with the lights.
It's a good idea to leave your guitar on its stand before you play and tune it often so that it gets used to the room's temperature.
