Hey Monte I'm quite happy with a take I did on the lukather lesson. It had some errors, especial when starting out, but I thought overall it was quite good! I need to work on all little details, longer sustain, better vibrato, cleaner fast part and yes, I had a little screw up in the end, pls forgive me wink.gif

Thanks Monte, you brought me from lvl 4 to almost lvl 6 wink.gif

Hey Monte, I wondered is THIS a good lesson for me? I think I love the first part, but then it gets a bit to hard for me... I just wondered about your honest feedback, please tell me whether it might be to hard! Also, I'd love to write a solo with some existing song... Maybe use the lukather style backingtrack? I mean, I really dig that style wink.gif

No lesson is too hard Kaz....some just take longer to learn than others....if the playing here moves you then I say go for it. smile.gif

Why don't you do a solo over the existing Luke track. I want you to try and come up with a game plan first though. Tell me what scales and arpeggios you are gonna use etc. Break it down....This is a good idea for you. smile.gif

Scale is Gminor, so G Aeolian (Bb Maj) would do tongue.gif For chords, it's:
I didn't plan on using some extra mode, so no different scales here. Ofcourse Gm penatonicscale!
Cm (minor 7th arpeggio)
Gm (minor arpeggio)
Eb (lots of Add9+sus2 stuff, but I'll stick to Ebmaj arpeggio)
F (major arpeggios)
Bb (major arpeggio, also some added notes)
Fm (this one is odd, because it's minor...., I'd say maybe this is a modulation? minor 7th arpeggios)
A (maj arpeggio)
D (major arpegio)
I'm not sure where the modulation is... becuase the info text says there is one.

Hi Kaz....Looks like you have everything under control. You did a good job on the Luke analysis....I'll be interested to hear your take over the backing.

Looks like the two lessons you are going to learn are going to be good as well. I saw you signed up for Emir's Satriani collab as well. Can't wait to hear your take....tear it up dude!!! smile.gif

That BT is wicked tongue.gif I have a cool lick for the bridge part... but I can't find a cool ending, or addition, on that lick. I wanted to play a pedal lick, using the fifth fret on the B string (E) as my pedal note. Then I play something like this:
E-------8------7------5--------------------------------------------------
B---5------5------5------5---8-------------------------------------------
G--------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I do that exactly where the -G-Dorian starts, it's really cool tongue.gif Maybe choose the G as pedal not, just for the dorian feel? But after this lick, it's hard to come up with somehting nice.

The penta part (shifting Amin to Emin) will probably be question and awnser style. I just love the backing, on some backings (for instance Joe's Drop Rock) I have problems creating a line, but on this I can just improvise it if I wanted tongue.gif

Hey Monte, this post contains my latest Lukather take. It has some patching done, but in total, this was played within two takes. So this is combined tongue.gif

The second run is kinda... not dirty, just not fluid tongue.gif I even used my Tremolo tongue.gif

Kaz.....I really like this take. Very nice tone and if you compare it to your original take on this it is VERY MUCH improved. I like it a lot Kaz. I think at this point it is just details....a little cleaner here and there.....tighter timing etc. Overall though, you should be very proud of this take. I'd love to see a video of this if you get a chance.

What collabs are you working on at the moment......any? How are they coming? Let me know if you need any help on any of them. Let me know if you need help on anything Kaz......keep working you are doing great. smile.gif

Ehm, Satch, Double time and Ivan's blues collab tongue.gif Double time is probably going to be something like an improv, because it's not about crazy lines, just timing tongue.gif Satch, I only have a nice bridge part tongue.gif and for the verses I'm going to do some Q&A lines, Q in Am and then A in Em tongue.gif

Well, to be honest I liked the intro, but then you kinda have small intervals and you keep in the same area. then the tapping lick is very cool, it builds from low to high. But then you go back to the same notes. Then you drop a bit (that's good) and then your ending is cool with the artificial harmonics.

I think if you make the bridge part a bit different and put it somewhere else, it'd sound better and really stand out!

That was my honest harsh meaning. Doesn't mean it sucked, just some points ^^I believe it's beter to get some good critics then some "wow, great one monte!!". I'm not sure how others think of that, I know we Dutchies tend to be kinda direct!! So... you have cool idea, maybe do some editing. Actualy I had exactly the same on a lower lever in David's las collab. I had some nice licks, but it was all above 12th fret tongue.gif I should have started a bit lower... Here's what david told me:

True, True! You know, I should really get into writing my solos, not just improvising them.... that way I might actualy end up with something good tongue.gif Now I often just "write" some bits in my head, like David's blocks (check his lessons about improvising with blocks). I just remember how I want to start, and some cool licks, the rest is improv.

I do that too Kaz. What I notice though is that when I improvise I just start running "shapes" that my fingers already know. When I sit and compose I might start with a shape that is comfortable but then I turn it into a lick I've never played before and then I have just added a new lick to my vocabulary. Plus I like to try and have the solo have some structure to it. A lot of times I will come up with just the intro lick and I'll play that over and over until it is stuck in my head. Then when I don't have my guitar in my hands I'll be playing that intro lick in my head and try and "hum" the next lick in my head. That way I am playing what my ear wants to hear rather than let my muscle memory in my fingers dictate what I am going to play. Try it.....I think you'll enjoy it. I'm getting faster at it too tongue.gif
