Whammy "schirrp" Lesson?

Just throwing the idea out, I think it's mostly used by a few metal guitarists.
Basicly what you do is hit a note and then either pull the whammy bar _up_ very quicky and let go so it quickly vibrates a short moment or you could lock your whammy bar to the back of the guitar and hit it quickly.

Would like a lesson on how to play simple melodies with this technique. I can make the basic sound easily, but I have problem getting clean "schirrps" when playing short melodies. I guess a lot of muting of strings and good legato is required.

Any tips or maybe a lesson coming up? =)

Unfortunately I don't have floating Floyd Rose on my custom
but that's nice technique indeed, Vai uses it a lot, Satch as well. smile.gif

I say it does come under the category of whammy bar technique, it's just another useful tool to have in ones box of tricks. As Wilska pointed out, it's when you "bounce" the whammy bar to give a fast vibrato effect, very much the same as when you hold a ruler at the edge of a desk and flick the end of it to get a "schripp" sound
It can be integrated into your playing as you see fit - muting the unwanted strings with the fretting hand should be done with any whammy bar technique such as this.

Yeah that's exactly the technique I was trying to explain, but you did it much better =)
I'm just gonna keep practicing, I really enjoy the sound of it. Tho it shouldn't be used too often!

I dont think "schirrping" on the whammy bar is a technique, i think its just called using the whammy bar, wether it be fast or slow.

Whammy bar technique or trick doesn't matter - it sound cool! Generally lesson covering these "special effects" techniques would be great.

If I find some time I could try to put something together like the one I did here, perhaps with some added melodic ideas. That's if people will want it and find it of any use.. let me know.
