Seems to me you are looking for a good metal tone? I would suggest you get an E-MU 0404 PCI card, or M-Audio 2496, small preamp (you can use line out on the amp too), and Peavey ReValver MKIII plugin. It will sound better then micing that amp.

Would buying a good sound card produce better quality sound than a Toneport? I have a UX1 but I'm not totally satisfied with the quality. Not necessarily. Toneport is a very decent device. Depends a lot on how you record currently and your setup? Though, combination of better sound card and Guitar Rig 4 is most likely allow you to tweak a better tone. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

I think for you it would be better to stick with POD Farm for a while, until you learn how to achieve a good tone from it, and then you can move to more advanced gear. If you got POD Studio as a gift, try to achieve the best sound from it that you can. You can use Vox line out, and just use cabinet simulation in POD Farm for example. More advanced gear will come to you with time
