I honestly NEVER ever had to deal with a forum before becoming an instructor at GMC and I disliked Romanian forums, strictly because in here people use them to bash other people.

In the beginning, I didn't quite frequent this one either, until a few months ago when I started my activity as a core team memeber. Slowly but surely, I began to understand that the process of learning gravitates around the forum in a measure beyond what I ever imagined.

Regardless of what else is going on around the site, everyone can get anything they need IN THE FORUM, all they have to do is ask! I wish I had a place like this to come to whenever I had something to ask smile.gif

How do you see the GMC Forum? Do you find it helpful and how was your first experience here?

The forum is just great, and you never know which cool new bands, artists or plain weird topics you'll find everytime you check for new posts laugh.gif

I started to use the forum a couple of years ago, mainly to discuss music piracy with Marcus Siepen smile.gif
But it is also very helpfull when you have a question regarding guitar stuff, to get feedback to your own songs and so on. The forum is just the heart of GMC. Though the chat chatches up!

The forum is like a second home to me laugh.gif, really, so much inspiration, knowledge, stories and things to discover here cool.gif
Not to mention that it's the most important place to discover the new improvements to the site, collabs, competitions, and interact with our instructors! smile.gif

I think the Forum is an untapped resource for many.... I got nothing to hide, so I put myself out there, , its a great way to express yourself...... so I use the forum alot, espically when I first joined.

It was a great tool to ask Instructors and Seniors about technique and certain areas of playing that I was unsure in.

Furthermore I have discovered many great Guitarists through the forum posts other ppl have put up, Marco Sfogli and Andy Timmons would be the biggest finds for me....

Also even though we are half the world away from each other, Forum is a great way to get closer to the other students and Instructors here.

And of course the silly stories that turn up every now and then cool.gif

Yeah, I love the forum. It is the place I come to almost every morning with my coffee. I go to work in an hour and I'm having my time to myself here on the forum. I started using the forum almost immediately after I joined GMC. I had used other forums before, or maybe just one, so I didn't really have an opinion about forums. I do, however, see on other forums where this bashing is rampant. And don't you love how people give sarcastic Yahoo! Answers to people's questions. But GMC is not like that. It's only in love that people are like this. It's like we are a family - haha even though probably some of us would be surprised to find out how we really are to each other if we were to meet in person every day. biggrin.gif I love this place because it provides a way of escape and also gives me a place I can ask questions and express myself. And it's cool when people will give you the honest truth. But they won't say, "You suck!" More like, "Hey, great effort! You are doing well! Keep practicing and you'll be a pro in no time!" smile.gif We are almost like professionals here. If we did see each other every day, we would fight eventually just like all close people do and say "You suck" or "Get lost, I'm tired right now." laugh.gif But it's like we come to work every day and act professional towards one another and look past everyone's faults -- Just having a good time learning and rocking our faces off! cool.gif

Kudos!!
-Brandon

I've used a car audio/lighting forum before when I was younger. It was more aggressive just tons of people trying to show off.

I love it here, no one is like omg check this behind the head playing with my foot! It's more of you feel you can be open. You can get a response from almost anyone, because everyone is willing to help if they have knowledge in that area.

From all the talks of solid state, tubes, pod farm, and digital multi-effects, it has gotten me to buy my awesome head. But also has me wanting something like a VST plug-in to do some recording as its way easier and I can still achieve a good sound. Which also pushed me into learning more about DAWs as well for recording.

I love how I can ask about a song and what I may be doing wrong and how it turns into a certain technique that will help push me to achieving it. But in the long run I know the answer, 99% of the time it is.. Slow down, practice it slowly, gradually speed up, use a metronome. I have that in my head constantly from this site.

I think that covers how I feel about the forum much less the site and how everyone acts more like a family of cousins than a bunch of meatheads trying to show off.

I love the general vibe of the GMC forum, we all agreed that we would make this a fun and respectful community where we can help each other and share ideas and artists,

I also love that we tend to be very authentic in this forum and expose our true personalities as much as we can hear smile.gif

What I like is not as much the forum but the people on it. Even when the majority have different views or opinions on topics even outside of guitar, everyone has always been respectful and not hateful or a butt....LOL....

I like the fact that we can communicate with the instructors and they are very helpful and polite even when the criticism may not be what we want to hear.

Great group to practice with!!! On other forums there is to much ego and bashing of one another. IF that ever happened here it would be devastating.

In reading the replies on this topic, it started me thinking...What would GMC be like without the forums? Imagine just having the lessons posted, with none of the options that the forums make available. That would in my opinion not be nearly as helpful or as instructive as it is now. The lessons are great, but combined with the forum where we can communicate with each other, it pushes GMC to new levels of awesomeness biggrin.gif Totally agree with what the fireball said about being professionals. I have been on numerous gaming forums where the main thing that gets tossed about is insults, and GMC is by far the best most friendly forum I have ever been involved with. Evn though we may not always agree with each other, we respect each other as musicans and artists. This is the greatest strength of GMC, namely, the people, instructors and students, who make this forum what it is.

hahah yes I am!

Well, the positive and warm atmosphere has always been the main characteristic of GMC Forum. Everybody has been always friendly and helpful with other GMCers. In those times we didn't have all the cool features like Rec, Collaborations, Wiki, Cartoons, Bonus, VideoChats, etc... So, I have to say that the site grow a lot and becomes better and beter every day. However this place has always been a magnet of positive people. smile.gif

Let me know if you want to know any specific thing about the old days... biggrin.gif

Well, the question got born out of my love for history smile.gif I always had this thing in me saying: 'What was happening here a long time ago/ How was it here a long time ago?' So that's why I asked - out of sheer curiosity tongue.gif

I feel like an old man that has a store in the city and sees the people coming and leaving, growing, making friends, learning to play guitar, starting his bands, making their first gigs, their first studio sessions... here we have a virtual place where we share our real lifes.. and the most amazing thing for me is when some guys or instructors of the site have a meeting in any part of the world (like you and Ivan, Kris with Marcus, Lian and Me, and many others). It's cool to see here how our friendship can become real. smile.gif
