Hello Sensei here is an attempt at full speed

Greetings Ize ! I like the title of your upload laugh.gif

Sounding good... a couple of places it sounds in front of the beat so watch out for the temptation to do that. smile.gif

QUOTE (dark dude @ Jan 30 2012, 11:22 PM) *
Easy with the frustration, guys! I know there's a time limit, but relax and do your best smile.gif

When practicing try to assign a number of perfect reps you'll hit for that session. You'll definately have more control the following day.

Yes, I would recommend doing this too. Telling yourself you're going to do 50 or so perfect reps of a lick can sometimes feel more like a satisfying achievement when you put you put your guitar down afterwards because you know you've done some quality practice smile.gif

Please don't worry too much about overall tempo.. and as for broken fingers, you only get those if you start a task but don't finish it, nothing to do with tempo smile.gif

QUOTE (gregc1 @ Jan 31 2012, 03:09 AM) *
Okay, here we go. I recorded a bunch of takes and this is the best I came up with. It's at 180bpm. I missed one of the high notes at the beginning and also fell apart towards the end a little bit. I'm going to keep working at it and I'll do a video and post on the REC board when I master it at full speed. I know I'm a little early but I definitely wanted to make the deadline. If I get it better before the 1st I'll post another version.

Hopefully I get through with 10 fingers and toes. smile.gif

Hey, regardless of a couple of missed notes and regardless of speed, this is the kind of tightness I'm looking for when it comes to hand synch. This is great.. the finger and the pick are meeting the note at the same time and you can hear they are just locked in. If you develop this sort of pick/finger relationship now at lower speeds it will translate to everything you do. Nice work ! cool.gif

Hey Ben,

Here is my try of the lesson. Very good exercise for hand sync and finger motion. smile.gif

As I have done quite some "neoclassical" lessons, this one felt relatively easy though the 3 patterns got me confused when moving from one another. Practice made it easy. I feel the tempo is just perfect for me. smile.gif

Thanks,
Chandra

Excellent stuff, Chandra ! It's a really cool, relaxed picking technique you've got there smile.gif

P.S. Because it's so cold where you are, it must take a long time to warm up. I imagine you must try and use the time to get as much guitar work done as you can whilst you're warmed up ! biggrin.gif

Thanks Ben. Yep, I played like an hour to finally get my fingers warm. Its not that cold nowadays but since we have no heating system as in europe, it really feels cold. My legs are still cold after having sun bathed for nearly an hour now. But I am used to it now.

Master Higgins,

Here is my take at 200bpm (100bpm in Jack Bauer "Real Time")

Quick bit of advice, try not to record anything after you have 3hrs sleep with your 9 month old baby keeping u up all night. Even Red Bull cans couldn't help wacko.gif cool.gif

Rock n Roll ! Nice work J-Dogg ! cool.gif

Is there anything worse than no sleep ?? Not much I don't reckon wink.gif Apart from the occasional note deviation, it all sounded nice and tight - just what I'm looking for !

You have studied hard, Australian one. Your reward is you only have to do 1 lap of the temple with Gitarrero on your back instead of 2 ! ph34r.gif

Thanks for the feedback Ben! It's definitely easier now than it was when I first started. Patterns 1 & 2 are great examples, originally my mind would start blending the finger patterns together and I would start getting mixed up at higher speeds. Now I can play patterns 1 & 2 at full speed without even having to think much about it, although for some reason in pattern 1, I have trouble with the high section at the end. It's the 14-17-15-17-15. I can not hit that first 15. I know it's there, I actively think about it, yet I my finger still always goes to 14 instead.

Anyway, I'll get that ironed out and post a full speed version on the REC board when it's ready. Ready for round two!

Hey man, you didn't fail at all.. I thought your hand synch was really good throughout and that's the purpose of this Task.

Although, you appear to be playing the whole thing a semitone above the backing ??

Yet again recording shows how sucky I really am. I'm not going to tell you how many takes these took sad.gif

My little finger joint gets tired very quickly, probably because I'm old.

I learnt a lot about focus this week

Hey Man, well done for putting up a take and avoiding the finger punishment... although it seems as if you've been getting enough of that already wink.gif

Like most of the takes I've heard, your main issue is controlling the movements between 3rd finger and pinky. That's where a lot of people lose control over their timing. It doesn't matter how accuracte your picking is.. when the pinky don't wanna play ball there isn't a lot you can do to hide it ! tongue.gif

So, I'd say we've uncovered an area that needs some attention. I'd say the same for many of you in this group so this is for everyone. The pinky (also in conjunction with 3rd finger) isn't always hitting the frets when you want it to and so the pick and finger aren't in synch. This is good. When you know what you're dealing with, then you can take the steps to correct it. smile.gif

Congratulations on completing your Tasks, warriors in training.. prepare for the next ! ph34r.gif

Here is my take :

This lesson has been very challenging to me yesterday I felt almost OK at 160bpm and today I can barely do it at 130... huh.gif
And its not perfect, a bit sloppy here and there, but this is the very best I could achieve in just one week. For this kind of lesson I would need one month of daily practice at least to get it right at a faster speed smile.gif

The main issue here was to get more speed, as I increased the bpm it sounded more and more sloppy, muting problem appeared, the pinky wasn't doing the job and so on...

All in all I really liked this lesson which I found great for alternate picking, working on a single scale is interesting as well, now I can say I know more about A minor harmonic scale. smile.gif

Sensei sorry for not uploading anything, I have learned the lesson, but forgot that I will need my laptop to make a video, and didn't take it home from work. I'll record as soon as possible and start learning another assignment right now.

Hey Olivier ! Thanks for the take.. that's such a beautiful guitar ! smile.gif

You have the same issue with the 3rd and 4th fingers that I mentioned earlier in the thread. This is quite common.. if you do spend some more time with this lesson it will help you with this.

I also see that you're sometimes not doing strict alternate picking. In some places you do 2 upstrokes or 2 downstrokes so you're losing the flow of up/down/up/down. This will hold you back from progressing so I definitely recommend keeping things slow and trying to maintain the up/down alternating pattern. smile.gif

That's ok... you only get broken fingers if you start a Task and don't complete. If you don't take part in a Task at all, it doesn't apply. I look forward to your involvement next week smile.gif
