Hey Cosmin,

First of all...thanks for letting me be your student.

My name is Korblitz and I joined this website a few weeks ago. I have been playing since May from this year, so I'm an absolute beginner.

That's one of my problems: I don't have a musical goal set. Or a practice routine.

I have done two REC threads :

Bear Rose Beginner's Guitar Lessons
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZTrxzLDqIY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKWqSUXLTbg

I'm working on: Bear Rose's Power Chords, C Major Scale and Am scale and today's Megadeth Easy Lesson by Ben,
I've have been working on: Time to Gallop but I can't get the triplet's right...Bear Rose's bending but I can' bend to pitch

Hey Korblitz,

I say, let's focus on getting you great results with the stuff you're working on right now smile.gif Ok?

Bending and triplets - about bending, this technique will develop itself in time and if you remember, I have given you some suggestion in the REC zone about achieving a good pitch smile.gif Have you managed to try them?

Triplets - first of all, are you conscious about the pulse of triplets?

Let's rock!

Hey Cosmin,

In regards to bending, I tried doing the way that you said on the corresponding REC Thread of mine. But, I don´t have the ear or I always doubt about getting the right pitch. I can´t honestly bend and say with confidence: Yes, this is an E! (or which ever note I have to bend).

I guess, I know three kinds of triplets:
a) Hit a note three times on a beat with the same spacing
b.1) Hit two notes and then 1 upstroke
b.2)hit one note and then 2 notes
Given that a) would be a "normal triplet" and cool.gif a "galloping triplet"

Is that what you are referring to?

Hmmm smile.gif

About the pitch - use a tuner biggrin.gif Set it for a specific note and then try hitting it until it's perfect! Of course, bend from one halfstep away, one whole step and even a whole and a half step away - deal?

About the triplets, I meant the pulse, like the rhythmical groove dictated by the triplet feel, not the way in which you can combine the upstrokes with the downstrokes.

It's like having a metronome give you quarter notes at 120 BPM in 4/4 (for instance) and over that, you count 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 with your voice, while keeping a steady pulse. Later on, when you have gained confidence, tap your foot to the quarter note 4/4 groove.
smile.gif I hope I have been clear with this... have I? biggrin.gif

Check this out Cosmin Lupu!!

http://soundcloud.com/user6968972/triplet-mix

It's my triple threat.

P.S. Yeah, the bending trick works...but I don't trust my ears so I have decided to cheat and use a tuner.

Update on Homework Assigment: I have completed 5% of the task. I have found the song "The Weight" by The Band. But I can't find by ear the vocal line.

Hey mate smile.gif Can you record the EXACT same thing with a metronome click that plays quarter notes? smile.gif

Regarding the bends - take your time, this is not a skill which you will acquire overnight wink.gif and regarding that vocal line, if it's too difficult, choose a song which you know very VERY well, and you already have the melodic lines in your head - there must be one, right? smile.gif

Let's ROCK!

I was trying this around...I think it sounds a little bit like the vocal line. Am I on the right path?

Can I do the Triple Threat on a lower BPM? I can't do it exactly.

Hey mate, sort out the whole thing if you can and then play it, ok? Regarding the timing, of course, it is right to go as low as needed to play with good timing, but out of what I am hearing here - you are playing 16th notes not triplets. You need to have 3 notes per beat not 4 smile.gif Can you try it again focusing on getting 3 even notes per beat?

I have no idea now, Cosmin.

I thought I had to play 3 notes on each beat.

This is what I did:

Set Click Track to 4/4....4 beats per measure on quarter notes at a 60 beats per minute.

Then I play
A note 3 times on First Beat (D. DU) or click
C Note 3 times on Second Beat (D. DU)
D note 3 times on Third Beat (D. DU)
E note 3 times on Fourth Beat (D. DU)

So I get 12 notes every measure.

smile.gif It's not about the number of notes, but about their duration - what you have played here is groups of one 8th note and two 16th notes.

You need to play 3 notes of equal length smile.gif Deal?

Hey man! It's correct! my advice is to tackle BOTH techniques for Lick 2 - AP and legato as they will develop you in a good way smile.gif

Try it! What tempo can you reach with one and with the other? smile.gif

Hey mate smile.gif I have listened to your take and I think the ideas are promising, but there are some technical aspects which prevent this take from being at its absolute best:

- timing - because you are probably unsure of what you're playing and you're searching for the places where you want to put your fingers, timing is faulty
- bending and vibrato - you need to reach the actual pitch of the notes when bending, as there are quite a few of them which are not there.

Having said these, would you like to work on some directions in order to improve these two VERY important aspects?

Alright!! Mate, here are your assignments biggrin.gif You got 10 days to record and send'em my way biggrin.gif

Bending: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/String-Bending/
Vibrato: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Vibrato-Odyssey/
Timing: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Rock-Rhythm-Variations/ - this last one I would like you to record against a special backing track which lacks bars and you have to tap your foot to the ground in order to keep a good timing smile.gif First use the backing in the lesson and then we'll talk about the other one wink.gif

Are you in for this challenge amigo? biggrin.gif
