Hi GMC,
I'm new to the GMC community. I've been practicing guitar regularly for about little over a year. I stumbled onto GMC via your videos on youtube and was impressed with the quality of the lessons so i gave it a try.
I wanted to play blues and classic rock. Currently I'm playing level 3-4 and want to get better as quickly as possible. my goal is to get to level 6 and be able to play comfortably to a small audience. I'm hoping this forum will provide me the motivation and guidance to get there.
Thanks for reading my post

Hello, I am new to this site as well. Hoping to become a decent guitar player before I'm too old and give out.

I've played in a few bands, but, I'm still just shockingly terrible. I put down the guitar for about 9 years, for some reason I just lost the love and motivation, and just recently picked it back up, within the past month, and now, I am loving it again, playing in all my spare time.

Looking forward to understanding how best to practice and make the most of these videos. I was especially inspired by that member that posted a video of his 3 year progression, amazing! And, I'm also inspired by the awesome talent this site has for instructors and the friendly atmosphere of the forums.

Great site and I plan on staying a member for a long time.

Hi novice! Welcome to GMC! The first step would be to choose 1 or 2 lessons in your level and of your style, film yourself and share the video with us. If you can do it, we will be able to give you feedback and suggest you what to work on....
Enjoy the site and always let us know if you need help.

Hi Spock!! Welcome to GMC! You can choose Ben, Cosmin, Alex or me as a personal mentor that can help you with your guitar practice. As I said to Novice, it would be cool if you can share with us a video of your playing to let us give you some feedback and suggestions.

Cosmin, Gabe,
thanks for responding so quickly. i just made quick recording of myself playing a short Blues exercise. The sound wasn't very good ohmy.gif as it was my first recording attempt ever... it sounded so distorted; i just don't know why. I hope it's ok as it's intended to track my playing progress and solicit critiques from others
Anyways, here it is
please provide feedback. thank you very much

Sounds good. You've got a good grasp of string bending and hand co ordination. I'm a big fan of vibrato, I feel it's so important in guitar playing so my attention is drawn there. You could do with working on this aspect a bit more to give a more controlled vibrato. Please have a look at these videos I made, talking specifically how to achieve a good vibrato, I hope you'll enjoy it:

Nice video mate. You bending, timing and hand sync are very good! This is a great starting point. As Ben said, vibrato is something that you could work to take your playing to a new level. Technically you could also work on legato and alternate picking exercises to train your technique. Finally I think that you should learn as many blues/rock lessons as you can from here to incorporate more licks and phrases into your guitar vocabulary in order to make your improvisations more defined and attractive.

Thank you for the comments/feedback/greetings. I will do as Ben and Gabriel suggested, that is working on vibrato. i'm viewing Ben's lessons on vibrato now. i'll make another video showing my progress on the subject in the near future (i hope biggrin.gif )
thanks again for your time

Hey mate! Glad you decided to be quick into showing us some things about your playing! I agree with the guys and I will also underline the fact that you can develop your skills in the area of bends and vibrato, by taking a step by step journey into Ben's series: Vibrato Odyssey -> https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Vibrato-Odyssey/ (at the bottom of the first lesson you will find the others) and after that, you might want to try these which I made up -> https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/The-Vo...Of-Your-Guitar/ and https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/The-Vo...-Your-Guitar-2/

Cosmin,
thank you for your input. I will add those lessons to my study list. I love your "Voice of your guitar" lesson... it sounds very cool!
btw, in which order should i practice Ben's vibrato lessons, by levels of difficulty or by lesson number, or study all concurrently?
thank you so much

Hey buddy, thanks for your kind thoughts - I think you should try Ben's lessons based on difficulty level, not necessarily in their numbered order. It's better to be able to tackle each one without having to break a finger smile.gif If you need further assistance, write me and I'll see you through wink.gif

Hi every one,
my name is Andrew, or Andy for short.

I'm both a newbee to this forum , and have zero talent so to speak.. Being in my late 50's now , with short full figured fingers....ie are not very nimble these days.. ( I am now retired, and on a very tight budget )...I have a varied like of different styles of music.. the Shadows is particularly appealing to me, however I do like some of the Who, led zeplin, pink floyd and some of the sufer styles and the tune Clasical Cass... supppose you could say the vintage style.
I did learn to read basic music when I was in Tech School .. it now seems almost a foriegn language to me now, but, I think I may be able to pick it back up again.

The equipment : I recently bought a guitar from JB hi-Fi (*Ion, like a cort guitar). this included the software - guitar rig 4 le, which appears to be outdated, can I install guitar rig 5 over the top or do I need to remove it first.

My goal is to be able to play a few tunes etc for self entertainment, any suggestions or direction I should take would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance
