Hi Phil, thanks for the updated. Yeah, this lesson seems to be simple but it's more difficult than it seems. Also, I think that it has the content of 2 lessons, because of the rhythm and solo sections. The solo part includes many licks that are exactly the type of licks that you asked to learn at the double stop thread.
Also, I'm happy to hear about your mother getting better!

Jack White Lesson. 35 minutes (Total time 140): Wow this lesson is hard. I am not going to give up on this one but it is very tricky for me. The long part with the double stops in is tricky to remember the pattern because it doesn't really repeat. What I find odd is, I can remember more of it if I just play the high E string, I've been doing that to try to remember it but when I go back to the double stops I get mixed up again  I find this really odd because the frets are the same  I think we're in for a long stop over in Jack White City  Played my repertoire of Rock Steady and Highway To Hell three times each. Still struggling to get the bridge in the right place in Highway but it will come. hahah yeah, it's tricky to remember this type of stuff, mostly when you are not the composer. Rockers tend to play what's natural for them and that can be different for every person.

Jack White Lesson. 30 minutes (Total time 170): Ok Gab, I'm going to lock myself away until I have go the WHOLE of this lesson down at 60% speed, then I'll record it and post it. Then I'll gradually increase the speed. If I get stuck on a particular part that I can't nail I'll post here. Is that ok with you? I don't really see the point in posting when there is no significant improvement or a problem. LOVING THIS LESSON even though it's bloody hard  Repertoire: I'm using Highway To Hell and Rock Steady as a warm up allowing me to get tighter with them and improve my improv skills. I have noticed that I play similar licks in both but in a different way with each track. I will post one of each soon for you to critique. I've got to brush up on Rock Steady, I'm a bit rusty, I neglected it a little bit. Cheers Gab

Hi Phil,
this sounds ok for me. I think that you can divide your work on Jack White's lesson in two: rhythm and solo. I think that the difficulty between both is different and that maybe you'll need more repetitions of the solo than the rhythm in order to master the whole thing. -------------------- My lessons

So practice up to 0:43 separately to after 0:43 until I get it locked down? I'm on it. Fiddly little bugger this track is Jack White Lesson. 30 minutes (10 rhythm, 20 solo) (Total time 200) It has helped a lot splitting it, I don't know why I didn't think of that approach , thanks for that mate .Repertoire: Wooohooooo, I hit the bridge part in Highway to Hell I also think the improv is getting better. Still very basic as you would expect at my level but I can notice a difference.Ok, it's lockdown time. I'll be back Cheers mate

I know I said I'm locking myself away but I can't Jack White Lesson. 40 minutes (15 rhythm, 30 solo) (Total time 240) I recorded this at 72bpm (80%). I know the chord section is scruffy, I struggle to play the chord and get back to the 7th fret but I'm going to slow that down and just play the from the bar before to the bar after the open chords for 20 minutes to get them smooth. Hi Phil,
The tone feels good, but I'm not at the right place now to judge it perfectly so I'll be back again regarding tone from my studio. Your playing feels good too, however there are some tuning issues when you play chords at 00:15, 00:31 and 00:38. I think that your guitar is out of tune, or maybe it's related to fingers pressure. The riffs (single note lines) are ok, but there is still work to do in order to make everything sound less shy and with more groove (as well as dynamics). Even with the lesson divided in two, you could also divide each of the blocks in smaller blocks, in order to work on the things that I've commented here. -------------------- My lessons

Yeah, the chord thing is usually my finger pressure. When I'm learning a tune, and there are quick chord changes or chords that I'm not used to I find I grip the neck hard because my fingers aren't in a position that is natural to them or I'm having to play the chord and leave it quickly. The guitar is fully in tune and has been set up at PRS Europe by Nick Fraser who sets up Ace of Skunk Anansie's guitars, I also think the groove comes once the tune is remembered and you don't have to think about it so much so you are relaxed. I hope this makes sense. A big part of learning guitar is learning how to learn I think, and it's different for all of us, it's finding what suits yourself that is one of the biggest challenges I think Jack White Lesson. 50 minutes (20 rhythm, 30 solo) (Total time 340) Spent a fair bit of time on this little bit tonight. I think the chords get better as this piece goes on. I have noticed myself not hitting all of the strings though. It's amazing what your mind seems to fill in when you are playing Can you hear any improvements? I was getting the note sequence in my head using GP5 and I've just watched your video and realised that you are hammering on and pulling off a lot and also using slides instead of picking the notes. The hardest part for me isn't the playing, though that is tricky, it's remembering it all. For some reason this is like a whole big tongue twister and I get bits mixed up with other bits and as I said above I've got to re-learn it because I didn't spot how you played the notes until last night I know it would be a ball ache but maybe the TAB in future lessons could have whether the note is picked or hammered or slid to? The tab for this has Quarter note, sixteenth not etc. I think the fingering would be more useful to a student. What do you think?Here's where I am with the solo. Half speed. I can play parts of it much quicker than this but not clean. I'll re-check the guitar pro file regarding this issues that you've noted. I'll re-upload a new version in case I consider it necessary. By the way, I think that all this exercise of learning, hearing, checking tab, checking the video, checking again tabs, and again HEARING, is very valuable for you! Imagine those days in which we only had a tdk cassette to rewind and forward in order to learn licks, and parts from songs. That's what helps us to train our ears, so congrats on doing it. I've checked each of the audios and I think that this is going on the right direction. I think that the riff is sounding groovier and more natural now on this new takes. The solo is off course more difficult and needs more time in order to adjust everything, but you can already play the part learnt, now you need to polish it. Thanks for your amazing update. That confirms what I thought Jack White Lesson. 35 minutes (all spent on solo) (Total time 405) I've blown the five hours Can you check this out and see what you think about left and right hand please? It's took a while to unlearn how I was playing it, my right hand kept on wanting to pick every note https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WPNCVAAgIs I'm over our 5 hour "deadline" for video submission on this one but I still think this is the best system for me. A lesson and a song with improv solos seems great at the moment regardless of how long it takes. You know I don't fanny around with my practice so, if it takes a long time it is what I need to get it right. This assignment is different to the last two because the lesson has taken longer than the song and I still haven't got it into my fingers yet I think this is the trickiest lesson I've tried so far but I will get there eventually.I'l be working on the last few bars now, the rhythm of the double stop section is eluding me at the moment, once I have that down, I'll polish the lot and post to REC when I'm happy with it. Still practicing Highway To Hell and Rock Steady, I play them about three times each. Well I've tried hard tonight but I have a dose of Man Flu and feel like cack  Coughing and sneezing and aching all over  Jack White Lesson. 50 minutes on whole song up to Bar 19 (Total time 455) I can play the rhythm intro at 100% with not quite clean clean chords. The rest, some I can play at 90%. The double stop section I'm chugging along at 60%. When I get to bar 19 (see TAB below) the hurdle at the moment is getting to that 14th fret from the 7th, even at 60% I'm missing it so I'm going to drop down to 25% for that part tomorrow, unless I feel worse than I do now, and then I'm off to my cot --7-14-14-14-14-17-17-17-17-14-14-14-14-19-19-19-| I did three of each Highway To Hell and Rock Steady too Cheers buddy. -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight.
