Hey GMC, I was wondering if it's a bad idea to use a high e string from a set of 11 gauge strings on a guitar strung with a set of 10s? My string broke and I don't have a set of 10 gauge strings lol. If it is, why's that? Thanks everyone!! not even close to bad. even using a 13 there would be fine if that suited you. you can buy single strings in bulk of one size at little cost. I keep a lot of 1st strings around, as that is the one that primarily breaks. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories...gs&index=11 This post has been edited by fkalich: Aug 24 2015, 08:49 AM |

Speaking of which - I have done this with one of my guitars just to practice bending, and it's cool because when you get back to the usual thin gauge things feel so much easier! Great trick! -------------------- My lessons

Yes just swapping gauge dimension for one string won't be a problem. If you change an entire set from 09 to 011 - it is likely the guitar will need a slight truss rod adjustment. Speaking of which - I have done this with one of my guitars just to practice bending, and it's cool because when you get back to the usual thin gauge things feel so much easier! I used to practise everything on my acoustic, definitely strengthens the muscles and makes the electric strings feel feather light. I might do that again -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight.
