it seems like the gift in the end would be a course, you would have to re-learn everything, not to mention forgetting everything you thought you new

Exactly. It would be a really hard one to take

Here is the top comment from the video
The good thing about not having perfect pitch is that you never lose it.

He's got a great point here. Relative pitch is, in many ways, far more useful. Sure, perfect pitch is great to have. Some folks are just born with it, some develop it. However, it's just a parlor trick without musical context to put it in. Developing one's "ear" is a crucial part of becoming a musician. One can't really express oneself musically without a decent ability with relative pitch. The only way to get good at it, just like everything else in life, is to practice at it. Also, like just about every other skill, there isn't really a "best" way to do it. All learning, like pitch, is relative smile.gif

In college years I had a harmony teacher who was likely in her 70's at the time.

While I played chords across the room she would correct me if I played something wrong, she had a trained relative pitch and you couldn't identify from perfect pitch as its just as fast. I could compare cause his son was perfect pitch which was was also one of my teachers biggrin.gif

But that training isn't easy and won't happen in a short time, there's also the fact that not everyones relative-pitch is equally strong either.

Also a note, having perfect pitch has pretty much nothing to do with a persons musicality as in making a good song or jamming through a backing track.

Of the dozen or so musicians that I know that have absolute or 'perfect' pitch, none of them has lost it.
In that handful of perfect pitch wielding musicians, only a couple of them are what I would label as "good" musicians.

Jacob Collier is indeed amazing. I saw a video where he was working on a project with like around 800 tracks. His computer has something like 384 GB of RAM laugh.gif I found the specs online a while back.

This is not the one, I think, but he's nearing 700 here:

That's a skill in itself having all of those tracks and keeping on top of them all. My head would be frazzled blink.gif wacko.gif
