Hi GMC!
We continue with more metal riffs, this time with a little colour from other styles. This is another song I composed with my friend CARLOS CABRERA from Ecuador, check his band www.myspace.com/solarismetal.
when we played together in our band in Argentina. It has several well-defined parts (we usually composed that way): intro, part A, part B, bridge and chorus, a typical formula that works very well in songs of any style. I hope that you can compose songs like this in the future.
Structure is definitely important in any song, but not as much as having good melodies and good riffs that inspirethe listener to think and feel. At the end of the day, a band's identity is built up by good melodies and good riffs!!
In this example, melodies are harmonized in minor thirds. It's mostly in F sharp minor, which allows you to use the minor scale and the pentatonic minor of that note to create all kinds of melodies and riffs.
I hope you enjoy it and find it useful. The point of these metal lessons is to offer brief outlines of songs to practise, getting more satisfactory results. I think it's more fun to practise like this, since it doesn't feel as you are "exercising" but just playing a song.
Regards everyone! See ya next time.
