  • Hi GMC!

Welcome to my new lesson based on the solo style of the amazing modern rock guitarist called Mark Tremonti.
He was born in April 18, 1974 in USA and has been very known as the lead guitarist of bands like Creed and Alter Bridge.

    Music Style:
Mark is well known because of his modern alternative rock / metal bands Creed and Alter Bridge. In both bands he is lead guitarist and main composer. His style of playing has influences from the great metal shredders like Paul Gilbert, Zakk Wylde, Vinnie Moore, MAB and even Slash. I think that his music style is a good balance between rock and metal, and his playing between shred and rocker licks. In this solo I tried to re-create both his rocker and shreddy metal sides so you will find really rocker licks over pentatonic and fast ideas over pentatonic, Aeolian and chromatic scales.

    Tonality, Chord Progression & Scales:
His songs are usually in minor, major or Mixolydian mode. These are also the scales most often used by him to create his solos. I found much more minor scale solos than major but there are also major ones and Mixolydian ones. This tune has a progression composed with D mixolydian mode and the scales used for the solo are D pentatonic minor with chromatic notes, and mixolydian mode.

    Techniques:
He has a very balanced and precise technique and can go from alternate picking to legato, tapping and sweeps without too much effort. In this lesson we will use alternate picking, legato, bending and vibrato.

    Sound:
I used my POD hd500 to build a sound based on Treadplate amps and 4x12 cabinets.
I used Cubase to record audio and midi, SSD 3.5 for drums and Trillian for bass.
