User:Goliath
Goliath is a user that hails from fabulous Atlanta, Georgia. He picked up the guitar initially when he was 13 at the heyday of the Seattle/Grunge movement. He quickly became smitten by metal and became and avid Metallica fan. Working backwards through their catalog from "Load" he soon discovered he preferred their earlier material to their more modern hard rock based sound. Unfortunately, he put the guitar down during his college career and would not pick it up again until one fateful day in the summer of '06. While perusing the music offerings at the nearby Target on his lunch break, one font jumped off the shelf at him and he had to pick it up. The font reminded him of one band he listened to during college that he had originally heard in an online video. The band it reminded him of was Freedom Call, the band on the CD was DragonForce. No more than a week later, he had purchased himself a lackluster instrument on eBay and eagerly waited it's arrival. That instrument was a horrid lower tiered Ibanez Iceman, which has since been sold.
Equipment buying became a hobby for Goliath, and he quickly wound up with as many as 6 guitars, but has since streamlined his collection to 4: ESP ltd DV8-R, Schecter Gryphon, Ibanez S470, and an Ibanez RG550 20th Anniversary Reissue. Amplifiers have not really been a priority to him as he is confined to apartment dwelling and is mindful of his neighbors. A PodXT Live with a set of headphones rounds out his arsenal, and if he must be amplified, he holds on to a Peavey Bandit 112, but currently it is not plugged in.
Origins of the name. The name "Goliath" was given to him as a nickname given him by his rugby teammates at the Georgia Institute of Technology. At first glance, the name is fitting and ironic, since he is named David and stands 6'-6" tall. The real manner in which he was handed the nickname was from his propensity to get injured as a rookie. One night at practice he received a black eye and a split lip as the veterans helped welcome him to the team. Since then, he has adopted it as initially an Xbox Live gamertag and eventually a forum name. His gamertag has since changed to "enragedaardvark".
Taste in Music. Goliath prefers the technical difficulty, energy, and the speed of metal, especially that of Power Metal and New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Favorite bands include Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Lamb of God, DragonForce, Sonata Arctica, Children of Bodom, and Iced Earth. Some of his admired guitarists include Alexi Laiho, Andre Olbrich, Willie Adler, Sam Totman, and Marty Friedman.
