There are good and bad fake ones smile.gif by fake if you mean the super affordable/no one ever heard of...stuff they are too risky even for their price.

I don't know the wood on them but hardware starts to rust/brake and replacing them with good quality stuff is really expensive. Not only bridge or tuners, the frets on them are super soft and besides the expense finding someone to install the decent isn't easy either.

I'd say don't take unnecessary risk and go with and Epiphone (I really like them) or any brand similar. The other thing is LP guitars sound so different from each other, its a must (and fun smile.gif ) to find the best one you can in your area.

it was for curiosity, i already own two epiphone, a LP studio, and a LP custom EMG

but exotics products seem to be cool, and have a real fake famous untouchable gibson 59 who look like a real one and sound near...for a nice price seem to be temptating smile.gif

One of the best bang for your buck LP copies is the Agile brand from Rondo Music.

A lot of praise over their higher end models (which are still a lot cheaper than any LP)

Burny's and Greco have long been acknowledged as excellent quality 'fakes' from Japan. Same for Tokai and early Ibanez (both were sued and 'adjusted' their guitar styles).

In the states some of the best faux LPs were made guy named Max. It is rumored that Slash recorded the 'Appetite for Destruction' record with one(?). https://www.google.com/search?q=max+les+pau...-8&oe=utf-8

I wouldn't like to have a guitar that wasn't made by Gibson with a Gibson written on it, feels wrong. But there are many manufacturers that make Les Paul shaped guitars, many of which are veeery similar to Gibson ones, and having one of those I think is great.

As for Epiphone, I heard so much bad things about these guitars, that I would be careful and anxious to buy one, even if I liked it in the shop...

you mean a 'CHIBSON', the fake Chinese ones with all the Gibson branding. I wouldnt get one. I like les pauls, I have 2 and I would totally love a '59 flametop reissue but I agree with Marek, it would feel wrong, like wearing a t-shirt by a band you never listen to biggrin.gif

From what Ive seen on youtube some of the fake Gibsons and fake PRS guitars are okay after changing pickups, electronics, some seem to play okay but its a bit of a risk just for a pretend brand.

yes bleez !! i mean chibson, or gibsun .... i do not mention the brand cause it's a hot topic (i was near banned in a french forum to have ask the question and share a video....... bloody ass***e)

people who have one , modified or not (in one case) seem very entusiaste about it.look like and sound like a real one (really??)

i like chinese phone, i have a lot of and change regulary or make gift for my friend, and i know one thing: they can do very smart stuff for a very nice price !

if it's right with a phone, maybe it's possible with guitar

it's curious !

PS; if the flame on such cheap guitars look good, I'd guess its just a picture glued on plain wood. Even Fender did this long time ago in Japan so its very possible.

I think the average Chinese guitar factory can make any guitar to any budget. If you give them a budget of 2000 euros they will make a quality instrument worthy of the money, if you give them a budget 100 euro, you will get a guitar built within that budget. It will have a cheap body, the fretboard will be inferior wood but just stained to look like ebony or whatever. I would wonder how it would hold up after a few years, I doubt it would age well like a real gibson does.

yeah, I think these guitar probably look fantastic at about 10ft away, probably not so nice once you are close enough to get your hands on it.

Chibson guitars are like buying a real Gibson on the installment plan smile.gif

Installment
1.)Buy Chibson
2.)Replace all electronics (pots/pickups/etc.)
3.)Have the frets leveled by a luthier
4.)Have the guitar setup/intonated (assuming it will intonate) by a luthier

Then BINGO you have a nice fake Gibson guitar smile.gif But yeah they are cheap so it's hard to say no right? They are using better woods these days and sometimes use real Gibsons in the advert and send something else.

In short, it's a gamble and then some extra money smile.gif

This is something a business man once sent me. Makes a lot of sense smile.gif

There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper.
People who consider price alone are that person's lawful prey.
It is unwise to pay too much, but it is also unwise to pay too little.
When you pay too much, you lose a little money, that is all.
When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought is incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...
It can't be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run.
And if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I personally wouldn't drop the dough on a Gibson (but that's just me).

I posted in another thread how a Gibson at my local music store had fret overhang near the 12th fret.

A guitar that price shouldn't have an issue like that - I got my Michael Kelly Patriot used for $300 and once I get around to swapping out the electronics it will not only play as well as any Gibson I've handled but it will sound just as good as well.

I have to agree that any instrument costing that much should have frets hanging over. Sure, now and then one bad apple will get by, but at those prices it's just not cool. They have bee coasting on their name for several years but only lasts so long. Ask Ibanez smile.gif After a while the trade in used, so far outstrips the sale in new that it becomes an issue.
