Tang Guitars

Just wondered if any one has been brave enough to have bought one and if so how was it?

Notice that these are "Gibsun" and not "Gibson" guitars. This blatant trademark rip-off kind of pisses me off. Pretty damn fradulatent if you ask me. My guess is that quality wise, you get what you pay for anyway. Even if you aren't concerned about authenticity. For your $350 or so bucks you're probably getting about $350 worth of guitar.

I heard about a guy's son (who's 14 and had a part time job to pay for it) purchased a guitar from one of those type of sites 'Higuitar', i think it was.

It's a ripoff, Gibsun instead of Gibson.
It turned up looking nothing like the picture.
Not solid body guitar, but glued scraps.
Cheap materials and pickups used.
But complete covered with clear laquer coat, to make it look pretty.
No case (but paid for one), and the so-called 'guitar' was damaged in transit (quick 3 days delivery thou).
Impossible to set up, and will not keep tune. Virtually unplayable.

It's really sad what people do to rip others dreams to shreds for a quick buck.

If you do go for a Gibson, check like mine came with a Serial No on the back of the neck which you can tap into their website to validate and even give the location, year and production number. You get a Gibson Pre-Pack Checklist with all features checked off and inspected, Model No and also the Serial No on that. It is also a must to have the hardcase with it, to keep it in good nick.

I wouldn't get one of these "Gibsuns", even if they are cheap.

If you want something that looks like Gibson and actually has decent quality for the buck, Epiphone is the answer smile.gif

Companies like this should do a design of their own. Even if staying close to "classic" shapes, they could still come up with something that's legitimate and if they know what they are doing, a good guitar for the money that could offer something to differentiate itself from the others. Ibanez, way back in the beginning had a les paul. It was a close copy but at least they had their own headstock. They got sued for it as well and had to quit making it. But doing so might have forced their hand to create their own solig body designs which as it turned out have become something of a tradmark of their own, even legendary.

They are trying to copy expensive product labels, not design something new. It's called piggy banking, even website's, etc, do it. I've heard it's gotten to the point that there is a town in Japan called Usa so people see that it's made in USA, lol. For actual labels like Reebok, Nikee, Gibsun, etc, the name is just be slightly off or mispelled so they don't get sued but still would trick someone not carefully looking. It's a great classic trick to make money but if your not just after the looks and want the quality you miss out big time.

Ferrari clone car shells are being sold in american for like $500 because Ferrari never patiented the design. At least they are honest enough to say it's a replica and you place it over a crumby car.

Epiphone is the 'honest' clone of the Gibson (if you want the cheaper version).

I have Epiphone made in China and the finish is just really great. You wouldn't know if its actually made in China. They do quality testing and its how Epiphone is whether its made in USA or Made in China. I don't know about electronics thought because I fell the guitar once and my bridge pickup line seems to have been quite dead and my intonation is not 100% correct.

We get most guitars made in China these days in the shop. There used to Korean made guitars before. Now, even Ibanez are made in Indonesia. We don't have exact copy like that in the site but they have a different brand name and most people who have bought sell them after a month or within a year. It seems to give quite a lot of problems like neck bending, tuning pegs etc. So, you really have to be careful. But in US, I think Mexican fenders or Epiphones are better than these guitars and comes around similar range (well a bit expensive). smile.gif

The big difference with a Gibsun and an Epiphone, both made on China,I guess is that Epi works to strengthen their name while Gibsun is just plain scam, probably staying as close to the law as possible by sending out something they could call a guitar instead of sneding you a brick or just nothing at all.
Nothing worth of a guitar, a huge margin. dry.gif

I wouldn't get these Gibsun guitars and similar. I'm not sure you'll even get 350$ worth of guitar rather cheap copy of its looks. Generally for that price you can find better guitars from established brands like Epiphone or Peavey etc....

These type of products will always exist and some people just look for cheap alternative to the real thing and that they do get smile.gif

We used to get guitars made in India back when I started playing guitars with names: Fander, Givson and Hovner. We thought they were orginals and interestingly, some sounded really good. These days, it seems to have dropped in quality though.

I have been looking at guitar bodies, necks, and pick ups etc to build my own guitar project. I just like building things with my hands, so why not try. Well I cant even buy the parts to build a guitar for less that they are selling those things for. If you get a MIM fender body, and put a nice neck on it, your already looking at $370 thats for an adler body, and a nice birds eye maple neck with rose wood fret board, then you still have to do all the hard ware, nut, and electronics. Minimum $750 just in parts. I have no idea how they can do them for that cheap.

I recently went to my music store and played a bunch of Mex fenders and epiphones to see if it would be cheeper to just buy one put together and then just upgrade the parts I want to, I must admit I played a few that had very nice tone and sustain, unplugged. Others just had none at all, they were just dead, same guitar different color and option.

I would never buy an instrument, that I have not put my hands on, and spent some time with in the first place. Im sure Gibson's lawyers are already working on something... Its sad really
