Hey GMC, I have a Strat that is tuned properly but it seems that beyond the 12th fret, there is a tuning problem.

When I play this lick...

----------5~------
-------6b8--------
------------------
------------------
------------------
------------------

...the 6th fret is supposed to be in tune with the 5th on the string below. However, when I transpose that to...

-----------------12~------
-------15b17-------------
---------------------------
---------------------------
---------------------------
---------------------------

...it is out of tune and it is driving me **** mad.gif

Any thoughts?

Old strings or maybe bad intonation setup.
How old are your strings?

And btw, you haven't transposed it correctly,
it should be 18b20 on B string and then 17 on high E if you are
playing the same thing one octave higher.
However transposing into another key is ok
but then you should play 14 on high E, not 12. smile.gif

Hello Raph,

in order for "frets" to be in tune all over the neck you need to "intonate" your instrument.

You are in luck, there is a video tutorial here at GMC on exactly how to do it:

Cheers,
