One of my absolute favourite players, Pat Metheny started a new project called "Orchestrion". Read here:
"Orchestrionics" is the term that I am using to describe a method of developing ensemble-oriented music using acoustic and acoustoelectric musical instruments that are mechanically controlled in a variety of ways, using solenoids and pneumatics. With a guitar, pen or keyboard I am able to create a detailed compositional environment or a spontaneously developed improvisation, with the pieces on this particular recording leaning toward the compositional side of the spectrum. On top of these layers of acoustic sound, I add my conventional electric guitar playing as an improvised component." So this is actually what we had in another thread with video artists that are building animations of instruments that not exists... but this time it's for real.... He built a whole room of mechanically controlled instruments that are controlled from the guitar - who said guitar synths were in faschion?? Nah, seriously, check it out here: Pat Metheny -"Orchestrion" It is most interesting!!!! //Staffay -------------------- Guitars: Ibanez AM-200, Ibanez GB-10, Fender Stratocaster Classic Player, Warmouth Custom Built, Suhr Classic Strat, Gibson Les Paul Standard 2003, Ibanez steel-string Amps: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Marshall JMP 2103, AER 60 Effects: BOSS DD-20, Danelectro Trans. That is amazing, and Pat is known to be one of the jazz greats. I didn't know he was into machines tho, this stuff is awesome! He's into it all..... been experimenting with synths, baritone guitars, three-neck guitars, mandolins and god knows what.... btw. he also owns a Brian Moore.... He is truly an innovator in both composing stuff and gear-wise, although his more "experimental" records aren't well known to the general public since they seems to prefer the smoother "Pat Metheny Group" style.... //Staffay -------------------- Guitars: Ibanez AM-200, Ibanez GB-10, Fender Stratocaster Classic Player, Warmouth Custom Built, Suhr Classic Strat, Gibson Les Paul Standard 2003, Ibanez steel-string Amps: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Marshall JMP 2103, AER 60 Effects: BOSS DD-20, Danelectro Trans.
