Hi all
I always thought that guitarist suffer from pain in left hand....
I have been playing for the past 3 years and now suddenly i have started to have pain in my right hand... this happens as soon as i start playing RIFFS.........Yes it happens when i start playing riffs and all...(ie rock stuff..)

I guess the right hand moves a lot when playing riffs and thats why i am facing this problem... can any one advice what should i do...??

Should just continue palying and hope that it will go away as soon as i get used to playing more and more fast riffs???

Or should i do any perticular excercise ??

Please suggest

Anuj

Well you should stop when you feel the pain, and rest...Is it a sharp pain , or one produced when your muscles get tired ?

You must warm up your right hand before practicing as much as you warm up your left - around 10 minutes of slow paced simple exercises, hand stretching and hand exercises. It will be fine, just take it slowly and don't practice when you didn't properly warm up. It may not seem like a big deal now but in 10 years maybe (god forbit!) you won't be able to play if you don't watch out, so be careful - it is always the best solution.

Definitely warm up properly. I have seen many people already that only worry about warming up the left hand, but of course also the right hand has to be warmed up, it is doing as much work. And definitely take a break when you are in pain, this "no pain no gain" thing is nonsense, if you continue to play and try to force yourself through this problem you might end up having serious problems.

Well try relaxing the right hand, and of course in time you will build up the endurance...

Set a lesson with an experienced teacher asking him to check your posture on guitar, something may be wrong, like a non-correct right hand wrist, maybe not straight. It really difficult to diagnose the problem without look at you while playing, anyway pain is the alarm bell used by our body to tell us that something is wrong!

If you are like me, you may be doing too much activities with your hands during the day.

I work on computer almost all day, and for fun I play guitar and play computer games... So it is about the accumulated stress on the hand, and not only the guitar playing.

I had pain in the past in the right hand. sad.gif My solution was to use the mouse with left hand while working (and right hand when playing PC games). A friend of mine suggested that and I am really grateful to him! smile.gif
