We all lose our inspiration periodically. Hell, I do this for a living and sometimes I don't want to pick up my axe for a week or two. And if I don't have any work ... I don't.
Everybody's experience is different and yours may be a bit more extreme than most, certainly mine but I know that what helps me get 'inspired' is learning something new. Sometimes it's a new style or just a song/solo I always liked but never had the time or the desire to really put the work in to get it. Every time I do that I find myself going on to something completely different which means I may not accomplish what I set out to do but I do accomplish something and that generally gets me back 'into' guitar. Maybe find someone or a few folks to 'jam' with. Make them teach you a new song. Take a few private guitar lessons. Participate in one of the collabs here. Without getting too personal, were/are you taking any anti-anxiety medication? That'll kill any inspiration in anybody. -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

Your guitar mojo is in your heart mate, it will come back when it's ready. For now, listen to music, spend time outdoors, read a good book before sleeping, anything that helps you to relax.
I'm sure everyone will agree, we look forward to hearing some more of your music when the time is right. Don't rush it mate, we're all here for you -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Let me see if I can get around to replying to you all. Reply below the quotes.

Without getting too personal, were/are you taking any anti-anxiety medication? That'll kill any inspiration in anybody. Sure, inspiration has always been a bit on/off for me over longer periods. As soon as I got stressed and pressured by the work situation, I dropped everything outside of it. Didn't play guitar, make proper food, no exercise, no nothing. What always inspired me in the past was going back to some old "classics" albums in my favorite genre, that being prog metal. Or at least some very good albums. Such as Images and Words by Dream Theater as an example. I've been getting medication for a long time now, since 2013 or so. Not anti-anxiety though, I guess. Not quite sure what it's called in English, but without going into too much detail, the medication is called Abilify. Or Airpiprazole apparently? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aripiprazole I was on this when I wrote my last piece(s) of music, and I've honestly lacked proper motivation and inspiration long before that. No matter what, please know there are people out here, like me, who enjoy your music. Much appreciated, Rammikin It's always nice to hear someone enjoys my music! I tend to just listen to a lot of music when I lose my playing mojo. Especially new bands or albums Ive just not heard before ( or for a long time ) either way, try not to be a stranger around here though buddy . Take care, Ben. Yeah, I became a bit of a stranger, and I wasn't sure how to get back on here (I mean, I knew how, just not exactly in what way I should go about posting what I did). yes, everyone are right, take care of you Ben, and see you soon as possible rockin as you know Cheers my friend Laurent Thanks, Laurent. I'll try and get back at it. Making music is one of the things that can be challenging, but also give some energy back. You should have written sooner but no harm. My advice is sports or any activity that gets you out of the house then when you find your balance again I'm sure you'll want to pickup the guitar. I've started working out every thursday. It's not much, but it's a start. And in two weeks I'm starting a course on health, which includes exercise and some other stuff related to food. It's now been two weeks I think since I stopped at the internship, and while I have yet to feel inspired to play guitar, one good thing is that I don't have constant heartburn (I think that's what it's called?) anymore. That burning in the chest and throat. So that's a good thing too, I suppose. I'm also considering getting an electronic drumkit once I have the money for it when I start studying. I try to do things that make me relax now, but I don't feel like they charge my batteries. Very few things do. Making music, being there for others etc do charge my batteries, though they're also draining, but in a good way! We are always here for ya Please do feel free to PM me on facebook or email or here @ GMC at anytime for any reason. Hang on during the tough bits. They will pass I keep telling myself that recently after our presidential election Todd Yeah, we all have ups and downs. I think we've spoken a few times about my situation by now, so you know it. I just hope I can find some motivation and inspiration to play and compose music again. It was such a thrill and adrenaline rush to write and record A Celestial Voyage, even if I want to redo it This post has been edited by Caelumamittendum: Nov 18 2016, 12:24 PM |
