Alternate Picking Vs Legato, what do you use more when playing?

Do you use more legato or AP? Usually people have legato more developed, but in fact, it's more due to the fact that AP is not developed that much, while fretting hand can move more freely. I just dialled a great tone for my guitar and it's just so smooth when doing legato, it's addictive On the other hand a few months ago, I couldn't stop APing because it's just more in your face sound. You can get more percussive notes out of AP, even though with legato, you can mute the strings a bit with the heel of your picking hand to get more of a percussive sound. For me, it's easier to play fast legato since my AP skills need so much work. I've spent quite a bit of time in the last couple years working on picking, but haven't improved speed very much.
