Hello,
I've just bought a Logitech webcam http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006KKLD7I/ref=...8051_TE_3p_dp_1 and can't see how to record videos to put on here. It didn't come with any software. Any ideas? Cheers Phil My first advice would be to check if the software is available on the logitech website for your webcam and install it: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support Usually, it comes with a software which allows you to control the webcam settings (quality, color correction etc). If you use Windows operating system, you should be able to use the built in "Windows Movie Maker" to capture the video from the webcam directly to your computer. Usually, to get the video from the webcam into the computer, you need to use some kind of video capture software (usually logitech should provide such software built in). If you are on Mac computer, using iMovie or Photo Booth should allow you to capture video. You can also use the Sony RX100 for capturing videos if that is easier. The files will not be big (I think these still cameras might be recording in mp4 format natively which is a very good size vs quality type of format/codec). Once you record the files, you can transfer them via USB to your computer (or via SD card if you have a card reader on the computer). Both solutions here will allow you to capture nice video for usage on the site in order to get feedback, take part in the REC zone etc. You should use the one you find easier and more comfortable. Now, if you wish to record the videos with high quality audio (as opposed to capturing audio using the webcam built in mic) - you'd need to do some computer magic. Basically you'd record guitar in the audio recording software (such as Reaper) and at the same time shoot the video with the webcam or still camera. Once done, you need a video editing software (like Windows Movie Maker) to put together audio from recording software and video from the webcam together (they need to be synced up) + mix in the backing track audio. This is the ultimate combination when it comes to audio quality in the videos and that is what GMC instructors and lots of professional guitarists do on youtube. Here is a video which showcases that approach: When it comes to joining GMC chats and broadcasting your video, all you need to do is hook up your webcam, go into the GMC chat room (https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/chat) and click on the "publish my video" button (its a small webcam icon in the chat software)... and other students and instructors will be able to see and hear you if they are in the chat room. _____________________ I know this all can sound daunting as there is quite a bit of technical fiddling to do on the computer. But, modern guitarists often really need to master the "computer video/audio production" as soon as possible as it opens up a lot of doors for placing and promoting their music. I'd suggest taking this step by step, I'll be glad to help you setup everything. You could do it one thing at the time, for start : getting the video from the webcam recorded on your computer (or one from the still camera). Thanks Carmine Very good question! I also find the sync part the most difficult one. The issue with it is that there is no automatic way to sync different video and audio sources. It has to be done manually. Now - when it comes to tricks, there are few : 1. Try playing something very visually and audio distinctive, like a completely muted note, slap on the strings. Something to emulate the "clapper" they use when they shoot the movies. The goal with this is to get both a visual and audio reference for a specific event in the recorded tracks (video and audio). 2. Once you have a good, clean "event" to use as a sync point, you can proceed to using low quality camera audio waveform to sync it with the DAW high quality audio wave form at the spot of the recorded event you chose as your sync point (1 sharp note, slap on the strings etc). You need to zoom in in the video editing software as much as possible to achieve a precise sync. Besides audio form, you should also use visual clue to double check the sync looks good. 3. I don't have direct experience with syncing in Windows Movie Maker, but it can be possible that some video editing software don't allow for as precise zoom in/track moving operation as possible. Also, sometimes software would be set to "snap" on the specific frames/positions which would only mess up the delicate task of syncing the video. See if there are some options set like "auto snapping" or similar. Software I've used successfully for syncing audio and video and that I'd recommend is : Sony Vegas (and other versions of it). There should be a trial version available so you could try it out before buying. There are different versions of this software depending on the features and they should all do the job really well. Sony Vegas is very flexible software which works well but you'll still need to do manual sync. One software worth looking into (a least from the talk on the web) is also Lightworks (http://www.lwks.com/), it is "kinda" free with some limitations. 4. Things to look out for : sometimes audio from the camera would not match the audio from the DAW. For example camera would record 48.000hz sampling rate where DAW would go for 44.100 hz. I had sometimes troubles in the past syncing those kind of audio signals. Not sure if its directly related to sampling rate or camera just didn't record the audio correctly, but matching the (audio) files you work with will be a safe thing to do. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

Movie Maker is very easy to use, for the REC corner will do the job very well, just tricky to sync, but, as said, sync is tricky anyway Carmine |
