 1. Well, my story with the guitar is quite long and I don't like it to much.. I started "playing" quite a few years ago, or to be more accurate I bought a classical guitar. I wanted to learn to play, because I was a metal fan already, and so I thought that it would be great to play on guitar. At first I was quite happy with my improvement in playing. Later I lost motivation, I had no idea what to do to improve, and also I had much less time, as I was very very in love, so basically I spent all my time with my girlfriend for something like 1.5 year. So making the story shorter, after developing some basic skills, I lost faith that I can be a good player, and stopped improving for years... I had 2-3 times I wanted to start again, but still had no idea what to do, so they failed. Finally I founded GMC over a year ago, and since than things started to be much better. I don't have much time, but I practice when I can --> still a well constructed practice plan most probably would help me ALOT. 2. You already know my most favourite band - Blind Guardian, I am a huge fan of Marcus and Andre playing. Interesting, unique rhythms, and slower, more melodical approach to soloing is great for me. Other bands are Demons and Wizards, Metallica, Warell Dane (from Nevermore), Black Sabbath,Tenacious D!, Nick Cave. Of course I listen to tons of metal bands, not to mention them all, lets say that I listen to heavy and power metal the most, and black-death metal the least (to aggressive/fast for me, and growling isn't my pair of shoes most of the time). 3. Answered it above --> heavy/power metal / rock/metal ballads (I love everything like Fade to Black by Metallica, Past and Future Secrets/Bard's Song) also the more heavy/powery Viking/folk metal. 4. Hmmm, I am looking at many different things, don't know if I shouldn't focus at just few of them at one time: - better riffing and lead skills - what is very important is the ability to compose my own stuff - most probably to accomplish the one above, I should learn the basic theory well, and practice scales more.. Now I am only half-comfortable with pentatonic scale, and this scale isn't to good for metal playing I suppose.. - this is connected with my collab participation. As a metal fan, the biggest problem with collaborations is when there is a metal backing. I have little "lick vocabulary" when it comes to metal, and I am to slow to do some "mighty" soloing.. So to summarize I need what I need the most now, is some structure to my practicing, and some guidance where should I start. 5. Now I practice the following lessons: - hammer on dude - basic metal rhythm guitar - pentatonic solo - black sabbath style lesson - blind guardian style lesson The first four are all made by Marcus, and the last one is of course Yours:) These are not the lessons, that I started lately, but rather lessons I practiced long ago, didn't record it, and never really learned to play it 100% correctly. So I want to "master" and record them for REC. Still some parts in hammer on dude, and the fastest part of Your blind guardian lesson, are quite difficult for me, so learning these should be beneficial to me. Sorry for so long and chaotically written post, I hope it is possible to understand what I wrote, if not I will be more than ready to write more  Glad that our horde begins \m/  OH, and in my signature there is a link to Youtube channel, so You can see some of the videos recorded by me. Hi there again Lian! I recorded one more lesson, it was quite late here in Poland when I recorded it, and the video is even darker than it was on the camera little screen...
I saw that You already gave some stuff to Canis and Superize, and I think these are really cool. Something similar in Power Metal(Blind Guardian  ) style could be nice for me as well. I can play the rhythm exercises for both Canis and Superize up to speed, but my hand is getting tired quite fast.EDIT: I recorded a take for Santiago's collab, it is far from complexity, but the speed of the backing track left me with nothing but tapping at my disposal https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...st&id=18083EDIT2: Today I recorded another video, the legato lick is somehow sloppy, to much thinking was involved in that moment:P EDIT3: Well, another take on one of Your great lessons:) I learned very fast, but there are some flaws for sure. well, finally back with full-charged batteries! sorry for the long delay
I´ll try to recover the wasted time, so I hope you are still there. first to all, I want to tell you about all weak points I saw in your playing. I´ll do this in a constructive way, so don´t take it bad after all for this weak points you´re here.1- * I noticed that you don´t use your pinky so much. * a weak vibrato sometimes makes you miss the correct tune for every note. * palm muting could be better. 2- which pick are you using? if it´s too soft, you won´t get a powerful sound. I´m using dumlop 1.5 mm. so I think you give it a try. you should sound pretty close to me, taking in mind your pick-ups and your guitar are very similar. so, I think we could improve your sound from the hand and from the pick. 3- now your first assignment about technique is an etude on patterns that helps you to develop your pinky. first assignment: Time to complete: 6 days Level: Intermediate Record: rec this take once you feel comfortable with it. remember, it´s not that important if you record a vid. an mp3 file is also welcome. (I want this recording only using metronome) part 1- -using alternate picking.. learn this first assignment start at 170 bpm increase to 190 bpm increase to 210 bpm increase to 230 bpm part 2- -routine once you feel comfortable with it apply the following: start at 170 bpm (2 times) at 190 (3 times) at 210 (4 times) at 230 (4 times) rest or jam during 10 minutes and repeat the assignment for many times. remember to focus on your practice, concentrate and have fun during the process that´s better than 100 hour-practice. once you got it, we still use this kind of exercises as warming-up. part 3- as you ask me, this etude is also focused on one scale (Em) to give you some options in time of creating solos. here you´ll find all the notes of the scale through out the fretboard. after practice, you´ll notice that you are also improving your jam skills, because you´re putting attention on specific notes. Part 4- Rhythm I would like you re-practice this lesson since I think you like it. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/power_metal_rhythm/ and apply the following: 1-use the correct fingers at the intro. 2-look for a better position of palm muting. 3-and improve the galloping part. have fun practicing and ask me for whatever you need. |
