I'm looking for a little guitar to computer signal converter for work. I've got an hr. I can practice at lunch and I need to take full advantage of it.

I'd like to be able to plug in a guitar than USB it to the computer then be able to listen and possibly record into Reaper.

Budget is up to $200 USD, but that's not set in stone.

I've got a POD X3 Live at home that I use and I like it, but I don't want to drag it to work every day.

All suggestions appreciated. Even if it isn't a Line 6 product, I'll take a recommendation.

If you just need an Usb connection and a modeling software then go for the Pod Studio GX. It's a lot cheaper since you don't need two inputs and all the other feature of the Ux-2

GX, UX1 or UX2 should work, you get the same tones as with the X3. As others mentioned, if you only need one input GX will be enough wink.gif

Another vote for POD Studio GX (you will need headphones though) for such interfaces.

Another possibly more fun option would be getting Korg Pandora PX5D . I think it has USB recording capability and its really cool small device! smile.gif

Is the POD Studio GX a real soundcard ? Or is it only used for recording ?

I am currently testing a FireWire 410 which is a complete external soundcard on which I can directly plug monitors and hear the music, game and other computer sound through those speakers plus obviously record my guitar. I find it very user friendly and easy to use.

Is it the same than those ones :

Actually POD Studio (gx,ux etc) is a real soundcard. You just need to use it as output device in windows/mac and you will hear ALL sounds from PC (movies, games, music) going through POD Studio and monitors attached to it.

Sounds is much better then integrated sound card I have in my computer. smile.gif

PODs seems pretty popular but just wanted to post this as well.

I know making decisions like this is pretty hard when you have a lot of choices but definitely worth considering..

I just had a chance to test out Guitar Rig 4 Demo the other night and it really sounds awesome unlike many DSP softwares / units and way better than the version 3 I was using. It doesn't really sound that digital. The advantage of using new pedals / softwares is that you get that improved sound quality.

If you are into recording (not LIVE situations), I would strongly recommend giving it this a try. So much less wires. smile.gif

Either get the Pro version for $200..
or the Session for $150. (this one comes with audio interface as well) or Mobile

The good thing about it is the interface is small but you will need the software in the reaper (if you are recording) on your work computer. You can then take it in your pocket.

If its just for practising then KORG Pandora is good as it fits in your pocket and no need to connect to computers for sound.

Heres a review from our own instructor as well

Buy UX1, you won't regret it. It's a good device with all the features that you might need, and it's ultra portable.

Why is the UX1 better than Guitar Rig Session ? smile.gif

Because the software looks so much cheaper compared to Guitar Rig...
