Here in Bogota it's been very different lately,

this is supposed to be a cold city but in the latest months it's really hot. People go out in t-shirts and stuff.

There were some fires caused by this.

Have you noticed changes in your area?

It's VERY changing here as well.
Sarajevo is well known of cold winter too (had Olimpics in 84. biggrin.gif ) but last week or two
have been strangely hot for this time of year, 5-15 Celsius.
Before that we had huuuuge snow but it melted in like 24 hours, not good. huh.gif

We had a less-hot summer (fewer days > 100F) and are having a slightly colder winter (more days < 32F / 0C) but I wouldn't call this drastic yet. It's a change, but not that great of a change ... yet.

Minor point guys:

Climate is what happens over a long period of time - say 30 years or so.

Weather is what we get over a short period and usually local.

So to talk about the recent heat wave in Bogota or the cold snap in Sarajevo is weather, whilst the reported gradual increase in sea temperature since the early 60s is climate change. It's one reason why climatologists can still talk about global warming in the UK despite the awful winter they're having wink.gif .

Don't think it's all too bad here. It's all about how you take it, I geuss. We've had very cold weather and snow lately, which we haven't had for years... but I thought they said winters were supposed to get warmer here? Yeah, I know that's wheather and not climate... but still smile.gif

Besides... I read something about them now saying everything will get colder and colder in the next 50 years or so? Will see if I find the source.

Winter this year was colder then usual as well. Further north, there is a video of someone throwing water in the air, and it turns to snow before hitting the ground ^^

I personally feel it's a very frightening and real problem - I don't recognize the Swedish climate.

here the climate is very bad as well. Big temperatures in December, and what's more important frequent temperature ups and downs of 10C to even 20C difference! We had major snow about 2-3 weeks ago, it was on the streets for 3 days and then it melted same way it came - in 1 day. Scary.. unsure.gif

Cold winter here this year, lots of snow, just like the winters used to be when I was a kid 30+ years ago. So remembering the winters that used to be, it's nothing new.

Same here, nothing new under the sun, just reminds me of the winters we had EVERY year when I was a kid..... and its also hard to tell if we are going against a global warming or a new ice-time since some scientists claims that the the global warming will make the Gulf-stream to change direction causing the ice to grow instead....... who knows??? What is bad however ist the pollution of the air.....

I am only 23 years old, so can't speak how I remember it for the last 30 years, but in my life the weather haven't changed much. One year the winter isn't cold and everyone gets excited about the climate change, and another year there is snow everywhere and the temperature is very low. Summers are bit warmer in few last years, but there are still long rainy/crapy weather periods in it.

We are talking about global warming for about 10 or 15 years now and yes, it can be scary at some point. But the nature and the universe are bigger than that. I am sure we are not going to kill the planet. The planet will evolve, for sure, but will certainly survive.

One must remember that everything we produce come from the Earth, including gas and everything that today cause that so feared global warming.

I am very optimistic for the planet, but not that much for humanity. See, on the scale of the universe, who care about mankind ? What is 6000 years of civilization compared to millions years of evolution ? Nothing to worry about, really... We shouldn't be so selfish and egocentric. wink.gif

There is a very good documentary about what would happen if man completely disappear from the planet. Unfortunately they are in French and I can't find a translation : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJVOvYPHrMY

It's very interesting to see that after only 10 years the seas will have completely regenerated themselves. And after only like 20 or 50 years (if I remember well) our buildings and cars will have disappeared under the new vegetation...

So, yes, I am very optimistic for our planet. It will survive our passage. smile.gif

Exactly how I would put it, I'm no pessimistic either - even that some scientist-wanna-be-heard-and-famous are throwing bad reports at us like I switch my underwear... (no, they are even worse... laugh.gif ) We're not alone in the universe, and since mankind has always been bad to this planet I think the nature has its own regulations to deal with it - if we don't have a god above????

Although it sounds bit like science fiction still I think that there is a chance for mankind to figure out a way of traveling long distances of space in shorter time, and finding new worlds to colonize. To bad we won't be around anymore when this happens.

Who said we won't??? If this cold continues a little longer, I will freeze to death and then be preserved for the next 500 years in a refrigirator. Its all in my will !!! tongue.gif
