Hi mates,

Excuse my english,
I'm french, sometimes it's difficult for me to speak and understand,,,,

Gab is my mentor, I make a video take all weeks to have advices back,

I work a Muris Varajic's lesson : Funk Soling lesson.
This lesson is fantastic but some picking sequences are very fast.
I play to 85% speed?

When Gabriel saw my take, he told me :
"The video showing how you work on the fast licks is totally inspiring, why don't you create a thread
to share it to other students?"

You can see my videos here

Also, I send a message to Ben Higgins for advices Back

Hi, the practise video sounds really good. Your picking sounds very even and clean.

The area where it is difficult is where you want to concentrate more of your time.

Also, doing speed bursts of the lick will help, rather than constantly cycling it again and again

You can do it with a metronome or even without.. but the idea is that you do a really small fragment of the lick and play it a lot faster and then pause at the end. Eventually play the whole lick.. play it once really fast... pause.. do it again etc.

It's like acclimatising your hands to work faster but not by allowing them to fatigue.. hence the need to pause between reps.

I hope that makes sense.

Ben

Hello MisterM !

You're a very hard worker, and it bear fruit,
your approach to work some hard/fast sequences is very interesting.
My point of vew : I think that you must find a comfortable tempo till it works well,
and after you rise little by little.

You're an example to follow, that's pretty sure !

I had some questions :
_How many time do you practice every day ?
_How do you cut up you're working plan ?
_Which DAW/VST do you use ?
_Are you working with Guitar Pro 5 or only with a metronome ?
Thanks for you're future answers ! smile.gif

this is what we call the "drilling"

i do the same ways for hours, i use the software called "Guitar Speed Trainer"

you enter the notes sequence, do some loops, adjust intial speed, max speed, steps etc, and go.....

look at this video, i have recorded, unfortunatly, the guitar sound wasn't caprtured.....

Todd, i think you'"ll reconize the lesson #31 wink.gif

Drilling is boring, but if you do as a routine, a warming session, daily, this WORK A LOT !!!!

cheers

Laurent

Hi Mathieu (N3m57)

Thank you for kind words.

I try to play 2 times by day.
You will think that I'm crazy, but I play 6:15 am to 6:45 am before my job.
30 mn playing chord and smooth playing clean tone with my strat.
My wife agree and this is a wake up smoothly for my children.

The evening, I play 1 hour sometimes 2 hour when I'm alone

I practise exercises every day
Actually I practise Funk Soling lesson and others lessons.

This one I work 20/30 mn with the metronome 50/53/56/60....... bpm 1"00' by landing.
Then towards 70 bpm I fall has 00"45' dry, in 80 bpm I fall has 00"30' dry and has 85 bpm
I play no more than dry 00"10' 00"15'
I try play without errors because the memory remembers errors also.
Then I work the lesson, I try to feel my maximum speed of playing.

Then I play another lesson, I make the same type of exercise.
I target the hard sequence and I work on them.
For the cuts sequences, I listening I play
I try to create a loop which I can repeat , it is more effective.

I use "native instrument guitar rig" VST with cubase 5

Sometimes I work with guitar pro.
When I does not include a sequence, it's good to lower the rhythm and analyze.

Excuse my english rolleyes.gif

you're welcome Manu biggrin.gif

do a try with Guitar Speed Trainer, it's a good daily job

yo can drill your sequence, you can tune the timing progression and sustain.

and he provide a lot of needed shape to work your finger !

you have the same about chords and arpeggios.... this is another story

cheers

Laurent

Hello mate,
I am Spanish, translation apology ..

I found a thread of yours in the living practice of GAB.

I wanted to tell you that you inspiration to me. I really like how you play.
Also I have children, I have 6!. It is difficult to make time to devote to the guitar, but you get it.
Your investment of time seems effective and that is what is missing me.

Thank you for your videos friend, I really enjoy them.

Keep it up.
a greeting
