  • Yngwie - the finest guitar export to ever come from Sweden! I love him not only as a fellow Swede but also for his massive impact on the guitar community.

I have never learned a solo of his - but I was heavily influenced by his first REH instructional video when I started out. Also we have great coverage of his style and licks in the GMC lesson archive, and I have learned a lot from my fellow instructors here.

So why do you need another Yngwie lesson? Well today we are not going to attempt to clone Yngwie - rather explore how we can build neoclassical phrases under his influence.

This lesson use the backing from Marcus Lavendell's Neoclassical Three-Level-Lesson. When that lesson was published it totally blew our minds - not only did Marcus capture Yngwie's spirit to 110% - but he had broken it down into three different levels so everyone could approach it. I strongly encourage to check his lessons out - they are a part of GMC history!

We are going to play our licks in Eb Phrygian dominant, and there will be no need to tune down our guitars.

Within this scale - can be found the E Diminished arpeggio which we will be using as well. NB note this is not a typo, E diminished is diatonic to [ = "fits into" ] the Eb Phrygian dominant scale.
