  • Hi GMC!

This time I'm focusing on picking arpeggios. What is an arpeggio, I hear you ask ?

An arpeggio (plural arpeggi or arpeggios) is a musical technique where notes in a chord are played or sung in sequence, one after the other, rather than ringing out simultaneously. This word comes from the Italian word "arpeggiare" , which means "to play on a harp." An alternate translation of this term is "broken chord." - Wikipedia

We will be using alternate picking to play the arpeggios. This will be a good exercise for your right hand because it will improve accuracy, fluidity of motion and it also acts as an excellent warm up because the increased wrist movement encourages blood flow.

I've included the chord progression in the video but the chords themselves are not as important as the point of the exercise. The point of the exercise is to improve the things mentioned above and to equip you with the necessary technqiue to play all your favourite songs. No matter what musical genre you like, arpeggios always appear at some point and it's better to be ready for when they do !

    Gear: Marshall JVM 410H. Clean channel, Green setting. Bass - 0, Mid - 4, Treb - 6

    Tempo: 100bpm

Please practice this very slowly and be carefly with the chord shapes, not to strain your left hand. Introduce your hands to the shapes gradually over a period of several days.

    As always, Enjoy !
