  • Hi Guys!

Welcome to my first ever cover lesson. I thought I'd have a look at the classic song The Zoo, by the Scorpions.
The Zoo comes from their 1980 album Animal Magnetism and it is a mid paced, groovy riff fest!

I've concentrated only on the rhythm guitar parts of Rudolph Schenker. "Rudolf Schenker (born August 31, 1948 in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony) is a German guitarist and founding member of heavy metal band Scorpions, being the rhythm/lead guitarist and one of the main song-writers of the band. He formed the band in 1965 when he was 17 years old. After starting out with a Fender Stratocaster, Schenker is primarily known for playing Gibson Flying Vs and, more recently, Dean Vs." - Wikipedia

This song makes use of diads, which are 2 note chords. They are very useful for outlining minor or major melodies with very little effort. For a closer look at diads, please check out my lesson The Devil Is In The Diad here.

The opening guitar riff is at a higher tempo of 180 whilst the rest of the song is 110bpm.
This lesson will really work on your timing, your palm muting, your finger shifting and it will feel totally cool to play!
