Hi GMC-ers,
And welcome to Modal Madness Series Pt 3. This time we will talk about extended scales.
While constructing a solo, or just improvising, a lot of the time people get sctuck in 1 or 2 positions over the fretboard. Memorizing some extended versions of the common modal scales can help us a lot. There are quite a few guitarist using these scales, including Paul Gilbert and Tony Macalpine.
With this excercize we can parctice several things: to improve our alternate picking, to bend in the scale to the adequate note, and a vibrato at the end of each bend. While practicing, make sure that every note is picked with the same intensity and every note sounds even.
The tuning is in D (D, G, C, F, A, D ) .
Have fun,
- Zsolt
