Rhapsody Of Fire

Rhapsody Of Fire is a Power Metal band from Italy who 1997 with their first album, Legendary Tales revulutionesed the way power metal should sound. They like to call their own music for "Film Score Metal". In this new genre they blended movie soundtrack sounds in the style of composers like Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer and Basil Poledouris togheter with heavy riffs and and singing from the fantasy genre. They have realesed 8 albums and one live DVD/Documantry.

History

The band was formed in 1993 by Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli. Luca and Alex meet in a mind training course and after the course they decided to talk more over a dinner. They quickly dicovered that they liked the same bands and had the same musical influences, so they decided to meet again. They created a band togheter with the drummmer Daniele Carbonera and the bands was called Thundercross. The band began writing their first songs. Alex and Luca often went up to the mountains and used the landscape there as inspiration when they wrote.

In 1994 they realesed their first demo album and the album was sent a record company who like their music and they got a record deal. thanks to this the band now had access to more advanced recording equipment.

The name Thundercross was changed to Rhapsody in order to fit to their music. Rhapsody began recording a new demo album called Eternal Glory but right after the realese the singer and bass player left the band and now the rest of the band had a problem to solve. In 1997 the band found the perfect singer in Fabio Lione who was known for the depth and power in his singing. With this four members Rhapsody began record their first album, Legendary Tales. Luca and Alex had in this album created an epic sound with a mix of classical music, baroque and heavy metal. The liked to call this music for Hollywood metal becasue it had big resemblence to movie soundtracks.

In 1998 Rhapsody realesed their second album called Symphony Of The Enchanted Lands. In this album they had develope their new sound even more to make it sound even more epic.

1999 was a year of rest for the band but they were back in 2000 with their first tour togheter with Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica and the band won respect of fans in europe. It was later announced the the drummer was going to leave the band and that he was going to be replaced by Alex Holswarth. Rhapsody now began recording their new album and when it was reased it was a big sucess and it showed a new side of the band with heavier riffs and greater orchestral work.

In 2001 Rain Of A Thousand Flames was realesed as an EP and it was more of a bridge between the preavius albums and the upcomming album Power Of The Dragonflame witch was realesed in 2002. The band was joined by two new members, Patrice Guers(Bass) and Dominique Levrqvin(Guitar). They now went out on a new tour in europe and this time they were the headlining band and that gave them the oppertunity to use more effects in there show.

In the summer of 2004 Rhapsody realesed a new mini album called The Dark Secrets and it gave the listeners a taste on wath was coming when the reased the album, Symphony Of The Enchanted Lands II The Dark Secret in September.

The Music

Rhapsody Of Fire has created a very unique style of music witch they call, Filmscore Metal. Why they calle it that is because the orchestra work in their music reminds very much of music from great films like, Lord Of The rings. They mix the orchestra with haevy guitarriffs, fast drumlines and epic singing about, Dragons, Heros and Dark Lords.
