Rock is a popular genre of music that originated in the 1960s, strongly influenced by rock and roll. Rock does however have influences from other sources such as folk, rockabilly and classical.

It is usually characterized by a strong beat laid down by the bass and drums, and lots of power chords in the guitar.

The average rock band contains at least one electric (sometimes acoustic) guitar, an electric bass guitar, drums, a singer, and sometimes a keyboard or synthesizer.
