(my opinion) After around 600bpm the piece loses it's musical value/melody. It starts to sound like he's just sliding on the strings. I mean, it's a skill to brag about, but you can't perform that on stage, where real music is being played. But once again - that's only my view. The piece, which isn't all that 'musical' anyway, is meant to be played as fast as possible and there have always been instrumentalists competing for speed with 'Flight'. Once he speeds up it sounds sorta "slidey" and blurry IMHO. I"m sure he practiced his can off and I don't want to take away from that. There is another vid of a guy playing the same diddy where you can actually hear each pick strike and I gotta say it struck me as truly impressive. The player is DELLA VEGA.
