Hi all,

My name is Laurence. As you can tell from my ID, I am a bassist pursuing guitar. My experience has been that it's usually guitarists switching to bass, but I first trained to be a bassist.

I am here to expand my technique and music theory. We bassists tend to be analytical and technical minded and that's how I intend to approach what's being offered here. I purchased a Red strat American equipped with DG-20 EMG pickups, and I will be training on that. I like the hot glassy tube driven tones, dorian scales, british blueman stuff.

I gravitate towards players who have carved a distinctive sound or tone, or who can communicate with their instrument. such as
David Gilmour
Nile Rogers
Santana
Luther Perkins (Johnny Cash's old player)
Robin Trower
Leroy Bonner of the Ohio players (I really love funky dead picking and grooving)

Anyhow, be seeing you around and hope we all get what we came here to get, and not get discouraged. Let's give it some quality time. write to me anytime at [email protected]

Hey Bass Barron - good to see another Bassist here. I joined mainly to figure out how to apply a lot of this to the bass. I'm originally a cellist so I didn't start out on guitar either. What I DON'T want to do is start sounding like a guitar player playing bass but improv is improv and as long as I stay away from a lot of the idiomatic guitar stuff and don't go too heavy on the bends I should be able to keep the bottom down and solo at the same time - always a chore. I also plan on learning the guitar because I have to play a lot of country gigs and it's boring as hell on bass - the big problem is there are tons of country guitar players around and very few really good bassists so I'll always get more work on bass. I also play keys but I prefer the bass.
I'd really like to see some advanced bass stuff on here but a good amount of this transfers pretty well from guitar to bass.
