Wow, thank you very much for all the warm welcome messages. I've decided to join, particularly because of the REC section and your feedback, this is very helpful. And thank you very much for your feedback and advises on my first REC. You are welcome Daeron, by the way, congratulations on passing your first REC How is the work on the dynamics and timing going? Both of these two aspects of playing were something which was bothering me quite a lot when I was starting. Especially dynamics which were concept I was completely unaware of and I had no one to tell me about it. I went through it the hard way and wish I had more guidance on it early on. What I did discover finally was that this concept can be practiced rather efficiently (unlike some difficult techniques like sweeping or 4 finger tapping which can take a while etc) and when applied to playing it makes all the difference! It really helped me start sounding more pro even though I didn't have amazing technique or that much music knowledge to deserve the rating but with the help of dynamics I could make my lines sound more believable and "organic" for the listener. When it comes to timing, the eureka moment for me was when I started combining metronome practice with practicing using backing tracks. Both of these provided me with a "perfect timing" reference point to play along with. What I did next was get into learning basic note durations and figuring out how they fit the metronome beat/backings I'd use. After that, such practice became a habit and I still do it (use backings mostly for practicing). -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

But it's still difficult to keep the beat with the foot when I'm playing triplet for example ! Yeah - triplets are difficult for me too and might take some time getting used to as you need to move from familiar quarter or 8th notes pulse to squeeze in 3 notes in there in the space of 2. Try practicing only triplets rhythm by picking a single note (for example A on the 5th fret on the low E string) in triplets rhythm while tapping your foot. To make sure you are getting it right, I'd suggest also turning on the metronome beep. You can find the metronome functionality in any of GMC lessons. Just turn it on, set for example 60 or 70 BPM and tap your foot along. Then try picking the triplet rhythm and see how it feels. Focus points for triplets is to make all the notes even in duration. If you want to get "rhythm" crazy, you can also count out loud 1-2-3-1-2-3 Once you get the triplets going, you can practice switching from playing quarter or 8th notes to playing triplets. You can do it along with the metronome and play for example 2 bars of each. Usually the tricky parts are these switches in the rhythm, it just feels weird About dynamics, what kind of exercise could I do to work them ? Or maybe you want to say that I should try to put dynamic everywhere ? Good question! There are several ways you can approach this. My suggestion would be to start from the bottom and just do some "drilling". Turn on the metronome and play 8th notes. Pick the single note on any of the strings. Now, try to start picking really soft and then go up in loudness to the maximum strength with which you can pick the note (without breaking the string hehe). The goal is to start hearing how different picking strength affects the tone and how much space between min-max (in picking strenght) you have. Now the point of the above exercise is to get used to picking notes with different picking strength (while keeping time). Next step would be to apply and experiment with dynamics in everything you play. You can do it with my Boogie Guitar lesson. Try picking some of the notes harder to see how it feels and sounds. For start you can do it on the beats on which the snare drum hits. Please feel free to send me a video where you are experimenting with this and I'll comment. I can see that you are practicing this lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginn...r-22-Hammer-On/ ...try listening closely to how volume of different notes Bear is playing varies. Next step is to try emulating that. Not all notes are picked with the same strenght and this makes a really huge difference musically. As some examples of dynamics you can listen to the main videos in these lessons: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Ballad-and-Blues-II/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/dynamics_of_playing/ I would like to add that this (dynamics in playing) will also come naturally with time you spend with the guitar. So no need to get obsessed with it or spend too much time on it. Being aware and practicing it here and there in between sessions is good though and it will speed up the "natural" process. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net
