Hey GMC!!

I have a special for you guys biggrin.gif A few weeks ago I know me and some friends were going to form a band for a school talent show, and we needed a song. A long quest started and... we couldn't find one that fitted our needs. Untill I was just checking Cirse's Muy Tarde (for the 100th time) and I thought, why not play that? I contacted Gabe about it, and we got permission, and some English lyrics.

Then we finished the lyrics, because some parts were still a bit of a trouble, but it was very doable. Two rehearsels and it sounded very nice!

Then the Gig dry.gif dry.gif dry.gif
I brought my Vox AD50VT, very nice amp for the money, but they made me play what I think was a Roland Cube 30.... which had a sound no way near the one I had dialed in on my Vox. Then the soundcheck, it was doable, I could hear some guitar on the monitors and all. Before the gig started I kept tuning my strings and then we were about to play our one song, to crush the audience.

We started playing, but to bad, I couldn't hear myself biggrin.gif they also had swapped the bass amp, so now the bass sounded like a crackle of a cable (I swear I wondered whether the cable I had to use had broken tongue.gif ). Only during the solo I heard myself play. The drummer only heard the guitars and vocals very softly, and the singer didn't hear any guitar either wink.gif Only the singing was monitored correctly.
Then the solo kicked in, the singer starts to play rhythm guitar, you guess.... no sound xD volume knob was open and everything tongue.gif

I just checked the YouTube vid, you'll notice my low E is terribly out of tune, no clue how that happened since I tuned about a minute before going on stage, but because I couldn't hear anything, I didn't hear the terrible noise tongue.gif

so here it is, sorry Gab, we could have done way better, it sounded so good in rehearsels (with a Peavy Valveking biggrin.gif) I'm a tiny bit embaresed

I can barely hear the rhythm guitars either!
Even with the crappy sound & detuned guitar I can tell that you could easily do an excellent job with this song Kaz, it's a shame they didn't allow you to use your amp, etc.

That song is awesome. Nice job with the solo!

Wou Kaz! I love it! Knowing the technical problems that you have I think that you did a very good performance! It's is very normal to have those type of problems in the first performances of a band. I could write a book with all the bad experiences that we had on stage! laugh.gif laugh.gif
As I said to you by PM I'm so proud of knowing that our song has been played in Holland! I'm so happy! smile.gif
I can see a good future for your band if you stay together and working hard, I think that you should keep on rocking!

Thanks a lot for this! smile.gif

No man, thank you! Haha, and Luciana of course.

This was just a one time band, because the singer and drummer are already in another band but... Who knows tongue.gif And I'm busy starting another band wink.gif Luckily some friends of mine, who sat in the audience, told me it sounded way better live biggrin.gif

Hey Kaz, my band makes the same experience every time we play live. Luckily, we've got like 50 songs, so we use the first 5 or 10 to set up the monitors biggrin.gif
And my bandmates always say "Uh, that was bad today..." and I usually say "We've never been better", just like the audience...believe me, on stage the sound is always worse than in the audience.
By the way, I've got the same amp (Vox AD50VT), and I think it's great.

Did You unleash Your wrath upon those responsible for all those problems? If not than it was a mistake!;) You all played very well, especially in such circumstances.

Yeah true wink.gif Also, it sounds better live for some reason, the ambiance counts as well of course wink.gif

Hehe No doubt. There are a lot of sound engineer's over the years that i would like to box their ears. I can remember so many nights playing live that the sound was so bad even when the equipment was working perfectly. And you stare at the audience with a dumb look on your face, all the while thinking to yourself "This guy went to school for this? He would have been better off spending that money for a used car or something."

But music is just like anything you gotta take the good with the bad, and hope that the good outweighs it.

Anyway you did great regardless Kaz Kudos to you!

Daniel

Interesting experience you had Kaz! This gig though it doesn't sound that good (like you wanted), will be a valuable experience for you all in the future. These things will happen (amp swapping, bad monitoring), and I'm sure you learned a lot from this gig and know what to do next time. smile.gif

Its a really cool idea to play a cover of Gabs band! wink.gif
