Hi KG.
Yes,mainly difference between certain modes/scales
is root note and root chord as well.
Having Cm chord here pretty often it's obvious
that it's C Phrygian.
But without chords you would need to give more
importance to note C cause if you lay on Ab note too much
you'll lose feel of C Phrygian.
Hi Muris, apologies if this comment appears twice - I did it once but it doesn't seem to have worked!
Great lesson!
I'm still confused by this modal stuff - This piece is in C Phrygian which contains the same notes as Ab Major, Bb Dorian etc, so what makes this sound phrygian-ish, rather than Dorian-ish, or Major-ish? I thought the different modes became apparent when the appropriate harmony was present, but what makes a mode sound like that mode when there is no harmony?! Are you paying special emphasis to the 'C' note to make it obvious that that is the 'home' or what?!
I'll get this eventually! Sorry to be a pain, I bet you get this all the time...!
Thanks
KG
Hi, great lesson!
I'm still confused by this modal stuff!
This piece is in C Phrygian, which has the same notes as Ab Major, Bb Dorian, etc. I thought that we get the different modal 'feel' from the accompanying harmony, but if there are no chords playing, how does this piece sound C-Phrygain-ish, rather than Ab Major-ish, etc? Are you paying special emphasis to the C note to make that the home note, or what?! I'll get the hang of this eventially, I'm sure! Sorry to be a pain, I bet you get this all the time...!!
Thanks.
KG
Thank you!
Good lesson Muris. Beautiful AND easy
Great Muris like always!!!
I love the way you create a 'simple' solo for us beginners. I hope I can take some of your ideas form this and apply them to my playing.
Great tone and phrasing as always Muris
Glad you've found it useful guys, cheers.
I just love how you create such a 'simple' solo for us beginners! If I can take something away from this I've made some progress.
Great phrasing and tone as always Muris
Muris that bend to the b2 is sooo awesome. You reallllllllly get the phrygian sound that way. I need to keep this idea in mind... sometimes it's the most simple things I over look but this is a great way to bust into the next chord, but bend into it.
Thanks for another awesome lesson
Thanks Zsolt and Marcus!

good picking control and vibrato Muris, great playing and lesson
Thanks Nazgul.
Good thing about easier(slower) lessons
is that we can focus more on tone and vibrato
which is almost like 70% of our playing.
This is great. And your vibrato is really beyond awesome. Thanks Muris!
