  • Hi GMC! Today we are going to look some riffs in the style of the great metal band Pantera. As you all know, one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Dimebag Darrell was in Pantera, and created tons of classic metal riffs that we all know. With these riffs that we are going to look at in this lesson, I tried to create the feel of a typical groovy Pantera riff.

You should try and use as much downpicking as possible when you are learning these riffs, because if you can play most of this riffs up to speed with downpicking, your downpicking skills have increased greatly! So these riffs are great for practising your downpicking. :)

Other things to keep in mind:

-Dimebag often applied some slight vibrato at the end of his riffs, to give it that "sluggish" feel.
-When you are playing this, try to keep that "groove" going on the whole time.
-Dimebag often used chromatism in his riffs and licks, so I tried to incorporate that aspect in here aswell.

    Tempo: 140
    Key: Dm
    Tuning: Drop D
As usual, I included a couple of drum backings with slower tempo if you wanna practise this slowly :)

I hope you have fun with this lesson! :)
